You will find our office inside the old farmhouse located at Horsford Gardens & Nursery in Charlotte, Vermont. Inside the old farmhouse at Horsford's, Landscape Architect Charlie Proutt works with a team of designers, Miles Weston (photographed) and Elizabeth Proutt, and office manager Jessica Becker.
The stonework is stunning; everything really fits the house, our location, and our lifestyle. I have depended on Horsford and Distinctive Landscaping for forty years. The crew at Distinctive Landscaping made it soooo easy. They walked our property and drew up a creative plan for our property. The people who did the actually landscaping were polite, hard working, funny and delightful. We can't recommend them more highly. Go with these guys. Plus, all their plants and trees are top rate!

We were seeking an imaginative landscape design for our newly constructed home that captured our love of wildflowers. A backyard habitat built for the butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. Our site had challenges like a steep hillside and significant water runoff from the above elevation requiring diversion. The engineering and design challenges were more than met by Charlie, Miles, Christian and the hard-working crew. In one word this company is incredible! Their design and craftsmanship have transformed our home. We remain in awe of their work.
They started at the front of our home by removing the old, dated stoop, and installing azek stairs and railing. They transformed our deck while redesigning our back yard to include trees and a perennial garden. Their years of design knowledge and their ability to listen to what we wanted have given us a total landscape with flowers all summer long and a wonderful winterscape.

I would never recommend this company for any landscaping project because their customer service is atrocious! I have tried to work with this company for three years but the problem remains the same--they do not respond in a timely matter to the problems that arise after they have installed the plants. They say there is a one year guarantee on all plants they put in. Good luck getting them to replace the plants that die or are not thriving. I know at least three other dissatisfied customers with similar issues who will no longer use this company.
