Glen Canfield began installing laminate countertops for homeowners and contractors in the 1970s, running his small business out of his Sellwood home. Glen was a meticulous craftsman and a natural problem-solver, developing a new technique to produce nearly invisible seams in Formica counters.
In the 1980s, he branched out to include tile installation, and passed on his knowledge and craftsmanship to his son Dan, who bought the business in 1988. Throughout the 1990's Dan noticed the countertop market moving towards slab granite, and in 2000, he began offering slab countertops.

With its exceptional durability and endless variation in color and pattern, natural stone is a unique choice for surfaces in your home. We fabricate slabs of natural stone for various interior and exterior applications, including kitchen & bath countertops, showers, furniture tops, and more. Different types of stones are more suited for specific applications.
Quartz surfaces have become as popular, if not more popular, than natural stone surfaces in recent years. Quartz slabs are made by combining crushed quartz and other raw materials with a resin to bind everything together. These slabs are very durable, are resistant to staining and scratching, and never need sealing.
Where do I select slabs for my project? A. You can visit us and view our selection of in stock slabs or select material at any of the Portland area slab distributors. We can also source material from outside of the Portland area if needed. Which should I use: 2 cm or 3 cm slab granite material? A.There is no major difference in the finished appearance or functionality of 2 cm vs 3 cm countertops.

Alpha replaced the countertops in my kitchen and laundry room. We received excellent service from start to finish. The communication at each step was clear and prompt and the work was completed perfectly. They demoed the old countertops without any cabinet damage and the quartz countertops were carefully installed and look fantastic. Seams barely noticeable! The installers were courteous and cleaned up after themselves. Alpha even ran interference with the quartz supplier when they delivered a flawed slab. Would use Alpha again for sure!

My wife and I decided to be the general contractor on our kitchen remodel. Which means we were the ones that had to interview and hire or not each trade. Alpha Stoneworks is fabulous.Kaileen led me to the perfect stone after I had looked at every stone gallery in town and was bewildered. She and Rick helped me with the design and layout of my new kitchen so that it really works and looks fabulous. Rick Canfield arrived exactly on time and assured me that my small (but significant), delicate job could be accomplished successfully. The team at Alpha was a amazing. I was 38 weeks pregnant when I decided to redo my countertops and they were there to help. They helped work around my schedule. We were repurposing some quartz for our island and hey helped us decide what would match for design, helped us with the sink, make the right decisions. They were responsive, and when I couldn't find a plumber to come they connected me with someone. Everyone we worked with was professional and fun to work with. It is a true family establishment.

I was referred to Rick Canfield from ASW through my painter who just did my exterior home. Rick's expertise and knack for detail gave me confidence to move forward with ASW. His pricing was fair as I also got a few other quotes as well.
Throughout the process, he kept me informed and up to date on the status of the materials and STAYED on schedule. Rick even helped me select a sink that fit my exact needs ! If I could give them a zero I would. They seem to have a great selection of products but are not at all interested in selling anything. We need new counter tops. We've emailed them multiple times, sent them countertop plans, left voicemails. For weeks. Not a single response to any form of inquiry we've made. Very disappointing.

We needed someone to cut our granite counter to accommodate a new slide in range. The Alpha Stoneworks team was quick to reply to our inquiry with detailed information and was able to provide a quick turnaround. The team confirmed a time frame the day prior to our appointment, showed up on time, and worked as a team to provide an excellent end result. The counter cut was smooth and straight - we were so pleased with their work. They even slid the range into the space to make sure it would fit.

Alpha Stone Works had a gorgeous product and excellent customer service. Chris oversaw the project, Kirk and Alex installed counters and sink perfectly plus gave me very helpful artistic input, Andre graciously showed me the counters in process and cut me a sample to select tile, either Andre or Pascal gave my counters a fabulous 'leathered" finish. From start to finish everyone was prompt, thoughtful, and going the extra mile for my satisfaction. I never expected counters this beautiful. I'm so delighted with Alpha Stone Works.

This review is going to be broken down into 4 parts. We asked for a bid for countertops, backsplash, sink, etc from 9 different fabricators. Alphas bid came as one of our highest of 9 fabricators. But yet, it was competitive overall. Other fabricators only gave us quotes back on countertop and sink install. When you factor in sub-contracting other people in and their prices, Alpha still held our attention. Here's why we took their bid.

I used Alfa Stone work om my new acquired rental property. In wanted to update the house and rent it out. Rick worked on the design and helped me choose the products. Rick's expertise made a big different. The bid was fair and the price never changed. The house turned out beautiful, kitchen is amazing and I was able to get it rented in 2 weeks at my asking price. We are now working on another project. I will definitely recommend them to friends and clients.

Kristen is the best! She helped us get a great deal on our quartz counters and they look AMAZING!! We are over the moon. We would defiantly recommend using Alpha Stone Works. They went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. We called around all over Portland too to get quotes, and they were by far the most competitive. Would defiantly use them again. Again, the quality was impeccable, as this was a complicated project with multiple cuts, they did a flawless job.
