My interest in helping people benefit from solar power began, ironically enough, while I was working at the other end of the energy spectrum: coal mining. I was working in a coal mining operation while at the same time building my own home in the beautiful foothills of Grants, New Mexico. During the home's design phase, I began thinking seriously about "going solar."

It made a lot of economic sense in this sun-washed community to supplement the propane-fueled water heating and home heating I was installing with solar. In the course of my research I ran across Eric Scheu of King Solar. Of the many firms I contacted for information, education and equipment. He provided the most help by far.

It turns out that there was a great match with his expertise in solar and my experience with the different aspects of residential, commercial and industrial construction. We established a great rapport and mutually agreed to work together in my neck of the woods.
Services
We inspect your home or building, evaluate your utility bills to determine your energy needs for hot water and heating, determine the amount of solar energy required to meet those needs, and assess an ideal location for the collectors to have maximum exposure to the sun. We design a system custom-tailored to your site and show you the plan as part of the proposal.
It hardly needs to be said: Solar power from the sun is free and inexhaustible. On top of the money saved, there's another saving you and your children benefit from: Saving the environment through fewer emissions of greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gasses are considered the principal cause of global warming.
We are specialists in solar thermal systems. What many people think of as "solar" is actually a different technology, photovoltaic panels. Photovoltaic panes are optimized to generate electricity from the sun. Solar thermal, on the other hand is optimized to generate hot water. As a matter of fact, solar thermal technology is five (5!) times more efficient at heating water than converting photovoltaic electricity into hot water.
In general, here is what the federal government offers you to "go solar." The Energy Policy Act of 2005 establishes a 30% federal tax credit up to $2,000 for the purchase and installation of solar water heating or residential photovoltaic (solar electric). An individual can take both a 30% credit up to the $2,000 cap for a photovoltaics system and a 30% credit up to a separate $2,000 cap for a solar water heating system.
