A: After Jimmy McKinney served in the United States Army Reserves he started McKinney Deck Builders as a part time endeavor and then launched full time and incorporated in 2003 creating what is today J & R Construction Services, Inc. His great grandfather and grandfather were custom furniture makers and owned several sawmills in Eastern Kentucky.

We had a pretty significant kitchen remodel which included knocking down a wall and basically gutting the whole thing. I was very impressed with every aspect of this project. The project manager was very communicative with me and stayed in touch consistently throughout the entire project. Their price was within the range of the other estimates we had gotten. I have already recommended them to many of my friends with remodel projects - we are so happy with the results. Everyone was polite, always on time and professional. Thanks so much!

J&R built a screen porch for us and the experience was excellent. Everyone from Jimmy, to Rick (especially - great project manager), to the designer and office staff was helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable. We are in the process of working with J & R construction currently. I honestly hate to leave this review and have tried to give it time, but due to our experience this year, I cannot recommend them. I would like to separate business from personal, as this is not an attack against the character or integrity of the people in a personal way. But our experience working with them for business has been a nightmare. I see where someone comes up from J&R to respond to these to save face (who could blame them?) so I won't waste my time sharing all the details to enter into a public debate to match the one

Invested huge amounts of time pursuing a major project for months as the scope of work increased. When nearly ready to move forward & break ground, they backed out, forcing us to start all over with a different contractor. Although we were stunned at such unprofessional behavior, we were eventually very grateful that we dodged a bullet! This company would have been a nightmare on such a big project. due to out-of-town micro-management. They only have one local guy (who seems very nice) but he had no authority to make ANY decisions. I've heard great things about J&R and was looking forward to a smooth experience. Unfortunately for my kitchen remodel, the project fell way behind schedule and attention to detail lost. I felt as if my project was not a priority. For 50 to 100% markup on material and labor, I expected top notch project management, transparency, and communication. My project ended in discretionary termination.

I had been longing for many years for an additional room built to my house. My long year waiting to find a professional and trusted builder had come and that is J&R Construction. I could not ask for a better professional team from the project coordinator, project designer, production manager, project manager and warehouse manager. Jimmy and I own our own businesses and take pride in providing service the way we would like to be treated ourselves. I realized this in the course of providing him an adjustable bed for his RV. I enjoyed Jimmy's ability to describe what he wanted, the promptness and clarity of his feedback regarding the type of sleep experience he wanted and the dimensions of this RV platform bed and, later on, his appreciation of the work we did for him. For a project I was not looking forward to, my master bathroom complete remodel project actually turned out to be a very pleasant experience thanks to J&R Construction! J & R recenly completed a second story addition on our home. We could not recommend their team enough. The communication throughout the entire process was always timely and professional. When we had questions, concerns, or problems, our project manager was quick to address them without hesitation. The work was all extremely well done and J&R helped to insure we stayed within our budget. Jimmy and his team helped make what was a stressful few months away from our home as pain-free a process as possible. J&R provides an online calendar of each phase so clients know in advance what to expect daily – very important when you are living in the house with pets during the project.
