Crack Filling is the placement of asphalt emulsion into non-working cracks to reduce water infiltration and to reinforce the adjacent pavement. Crack Sealing is a method in which hot sealant is applied to working cracks to prevent water intrusion. Beneficial for active cracks that continue to extend in size and severity over time, crack sealants stop water and debris from entering the crack, protecting the longevity of the pavement.
Installing a new concrete driveway may not strike you as the most glamorous home improvement you could make, but driveway replacement is in fact a cost-effective way to increase the value and curb appeal of your home. However, the degree of value you gain will depend largely on the contractor's performance.

We had a very long gravel driveway with a large parking area at the end. The gravel was in pretty bad shape and was mostly mud after a bad winter. I contacted Jim George & Sons for a quote on ChipSeal, which I thought was a cheaper alternative to asphalt. Jim explained to me that ChipSeal wasn't a good option for my application and it would erode quickly if applied over gravel.
He came up with an alternative solution keeping my budget in mind. They did the large parking area with virgin asphalt (which turned out amazing!) and laid asphalt millings on the driveway portion. The millings

We paid union wages and did not get union quality work. While they did come back to repave a portion, the original problem is NOT fixed. And we had to chase them for months before they came back - "he's on vacation." We now refer to "Lake George" right at the back door coming out of the garage, and our garage still gets water in. Poor workmanship, no tamping, too much vibratory - we had to repair a gas line after they were done. Very disappointed.
