From its humble beginnings, Ted named the business T. J. Nelson Home Improvement because of his desire to remodel homes in Connecticut and thereby change the complexion of Southeastern Connecticut. During the first five years, T.J. Nelson was devoted to carpentry, roofing, and painting jobs that required a small team of professionals.
Established in 1981, the company originally specialized in high quality handyman services, however it didn't take long for the company to realize that the scope of their projects would need to grow to fill the demand for the quality of work and service that T.J. Nelson Home Improvements became known for providing.

Ted and his team were such a dream to work with. From the time we met Ted when he came to give us a quote for removing a load-bearing wall from our new home, he was thoughtful, professional, kind, honest, and well-versed in his work. As this was our first foray into major home renovations, we wanted someone who was transparent in the process and whom we could trust. All of the guys that worked on the project were amazing as well, and we actually kind of miss all the noise they created now that they're gone! Everything is always done right. When they say they are coming they do, on time. Always uses a contract so there's no unpleasant financial overrides or surprises. This review is based on them doing several projects over the years including a huge addition, complete kitchen, 2 baths, a deck, and siding. I love getting the job done right with peace of mind.

The Westerly Masonic Foundation had a leak that just couldn't be fixed. T.J. Nelson contractors provided us with a detailed quote of how they would replace our 60+ year old flat roof including exactly what materials the would use. They did a great job at a fair price and we are extremely please with their work. Thanks Ted, Pete & crew!

We've been using Tj Nelson for about 25 years now and I have to say .... They are a reliable company with consistently high quality work !
The highest compliment was paid to Ted one day on a project he designed for us ... One of our employees arrived on a job sight that he had no idea that Ted did the perpetration work for ..
Our man looked around at the construction work and said to me ..... This job looks so good .. It's as if Nelson did this work ...
I'll never forget that because it's a clear example of how the workmanship does speak for itself ...
