George Owren, pictured here with his wife Gail started Humboldt Countertops over 35 years ago. Originally a countertop store and a hardware store, known as "Humboldt Hardware", over time Humboldt Countertops & Surfacing has grown and accommodated the needs of the North Coast. Today HCS specializes in custom countertops for both residential and commercial jobs and is run by George's daughters Kelley Montana and Kari Chalmers.
The following summary outlines our process for custom countertops, however, the approach is similar regardless of what type of surface we will be designing and installing for you. The first step in designing countertops for your home or business begins with becoming familiar with your space. We invite you to visit our showroom at 70 W. Fourth Street in Eureka to view our products and color selections.
We offer a wide variety of products for use as countertops, tub and shower surrounds, work stations, wall cladding and furniture. If you have a product you are interested and don't see listed, contact us and we'll work with you to achieve the custom look you envision. Some specialty surfaces include custom wood, butcher block, quartzite and granite.

If I could give a 10 star I would.
Everyone we dealt with, from Denise in the show room, to the rest of the staff, was a great experience. The finished walls look awesome. Yes, it takes time from placing the order to actual install, but the wait is worth it for the quality of product and service they provide.
During the install, the shower pan cracked- not their fault, and Doug went to the nth degree to get the pan replaced as it was under warranty still (ended up a manufacturing defect). He didn’t have to, as HC&S didn’t install it. But he made all the phone calls, not I. With that level

Humboldt Countertops is very knowledgeable, but like most other local businesses they are also very busy and have more demand than supply. Their hours are Mon-Friday, 8am - 5pm. This makes it tricky for customers with 9-5 jobs to stop in or call. Weekend hours or an updated web experience would be helpful.
As a customer, we have to keep calling to check in on the status of getting our cabinets measured for the countertops we already ordered and paid a deposit on. We get busy, and forget to followup (e.g. we call, they say they'll call us back for scheduling but don't), and then more time passes
