We always begin with the end in full view. Each kitchen or bathroom project gets a full set of drawings for our client to review and make any necessary changes. Photo-realistic renderings allow our customers to see the final product in their home before they begin. TrueGrain Cabinetry utilizes only the highest quality materials and components for our projects.
When remodeling we often start with a vague desire to improve the look and functionality of our home. But dreams can be unclear and fuzzy, and communicating that fuzzy idea to a contractor can be frustrating for both parties. Once in a while Yelp truly delivers. TrueGrain is one of those places.
Just like others, I was going to install Ikea cabinets but was running into cabinet installers who seemed not to walk the talk. I worked in the furniture business and can detect BS. John on the first call did not set off any alarms. I went to his shop and got the design started. Since the design is all via computer so you can make a few tweaks over the phone unless he wants you to come to the shop to talk materials and fit/finish. One interesting aspect was that John actually talked me into spending LESS than I was planning

TrueGrain was recommended by our contractor. We met with the owner prior to agreeing to use them and found them professional and we liked there finished product.
When the job started it seemed like everything was going to be great. His staff was great. Then it came to the end and John refused to install the handles on the cabinets until they received final payment (the final payment due upon completion and approval of everything). It has been a wonderful experience working with John, TrueGrain. From the start, John has been a man of his word. He is professional, extremely talented, and very responsive to all emails with great communication,. John and his crew made a large custom bookcase and it came out beautifully. The quality of work was exceptional - such gorgeous work. He provided me with options of wood and color and other various recommendations. John was always on time, very easy to work with and extremely talented. He replaced all of my dated cabinet doors and drawers with shaker cabinets and self closing drawers. He also built another row of cabinets (above the existing cabinets) to the ceiling as a focal point and changed the whole look of the kitchen. It looks custom and absolutely beautiful. I couldn’t be happier with the result.

Incredible quality and such talented carpenters. I wish I could post images of the work they did. We were so lucky to have found them. I highly recommend this group. I especially appreciate John’s ability to help us visualize the final result using his particular graphics and engineering software. He made it fit so perfectly even in our vintage 1958 'not square anywhere' old house.

John and his team made us a beautiful "Furniture Grade" cabinet for our master bedroom. The cabinet had to fit inside a recess in our wall, and had to be a perfect fit. This was not an easy design/build project. John and his team made this cabinet exactly the way we wanted it to be. Zack and Alex did a flawless installation, and we hired Carlos to complete the finish, on-site, in white lacquer. The results were nothing short of amazing. Alex just installed the drawer and door hardware and we could not be happier with the results. We plan to work with John and his team at TrueGrain

My friend needed a custom door replaced on short notice. All of the local door/window shops in the SFV said it would be several weeks to get the door replaced. He called a specialty shop on the west side who suggested cabinetry shops as an alternative. He called, several that couldn't help, but then John McGinnis at TRUEGRAIN suggested he buy a standard door and he would cut it to specifications. Half hour later the door was fixed! The work was so well done and the carpenters were all great from the owner, John, down to the youngest guy on his team... we almost went with a company out of Georgia and then decided to shop local... which was the best decision I've made since buying this house...
I'm going to add photos when the kitchen is complete... but do yourself a favor... getting these sweet cabinets from True Grain (and both the finisher and stone fabricator suggested by John) was worth every penny
John even did some custom molding around the kitchen window as part of the job and it's stellar... totally

Perfect work!! You'd never know it was redone. John answered all my questions over the phone and then sent Spenser and another worker over to retrofit some cabinetry. They arrived on time, worked neatly and efficiently and charged a very fair price. John helped me save $ by suggesting a way to get the desired results that was much less expensive. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have found John at TrueGrain to completely transform our kitchen! We were on a pretty strict budget and so we originally were thinking to buy/install an Ikea kitchen, but I really didn't like the look of the Ikea cabinets. Then, we were going to buy Ikea boxes and have custom fronts made by Semi Handmade. But, Semi Handmade was going to take 8-10 weeks and we didn't have that kind of time. Plus, we didn't realize how expensive it would be to install Ikea cabinets! All of the installation quotes we received were astronomical, so any deal

We wanted to add a new row of cabinets to our kitchen, along with refacing our existing cabinet doors. We looked around at many different companies and TrueGrain was one of the only ones that offered custom (not pre-fab) cabinets. John worked with us closely to get exactly what we wanted which ended up not only being much nicer quality, but also at a competitive price.
John built the cabinets off site and installation was done in one, pain free day.

John and his super friendly & totally pro crew (which included his shop teacher from high school!) just installed cabinets for our kitchen and laundry. They could not have done a better job. We wanted to keep with the quality and vintage look of our 1926 Spanish house and they matched perfectly with modern day conveniences like self-closing drawers and pull-out pantries. When a drawer wasn't opening smoothly, they came out the next day to tweak. This is the kind of craftsmanship and service that deserves true shout-outs.
