First, John is cantankerous. You'll pick up on it when he comes by for an estimate, but it won't ring any alarms. But, you'll see it in full when you hear how he treats and argues with his less than enthusiastic employees, and later when he argues with you about the quality of his work.
Second, John will ask you for more money just before he starts the job because when he quoted you, "I didn't see the backside of the chimney." He'll say this even though you sent him pictures showing the back part of the chimney. You'll oblige him because you want to keep
