We build in French timber frame, competitive construction, environmentally superior, better insulated, cheaper to heat, sound resistant and fully sustainable. Established on Vashon Island, on Washington's Puget Sound, since 1984 by craftman Frederic Brillant, we design and build houses and barns, all with the trademark Douglas Fir, secured with structural black locus pegs.

Our designs are unique. We provide to our clients, through our techniques and styles, one of the Northwest most unique designs. The conceptualization of our timber frame structures, while being very competitive and fast, offer various aesthetic and structural benefits and allows for complete enclosure in effective insulation for energy efficiency.

Celtic Construction has a range of community structures and public spaces which provide you with an inspirational place to be. Sustainability is important to us. Every structure we build reduces any adverse impact on the environment. While the timber we use is a totally renewable resource, our method introduces and recycles otherwise discarded timbers, considered too naturally curvy for the conventional industry.
Services
Timber framing was used throughout Europe, especially from the 12th century to the 19th century and subsequently imported to North America where it was common into the early 19th century. Celtic Construction practices the craft which consist of creating a layout of the critical lines of each structural bent, to be laid out on a floor, using a chalk line.
We practice the known Latin scribe system, a traditional building method taught in Europe for over height hundred years. What we offer, beside its unique look, is the most lasting, enviromental freindly and most energy efficient system in the US today. And not the most expensive. Frederic Brilliant's homes come in a range of styles, sizes and finishes, all designed and built to exceed US building standards.
Unlike other framing systems that work with straight and square timbers, the French scribe system that we practice takes into account the shape of each timber, allowing us to work with any type of timber, whether perfectly squared or irregular.

Report
I have worked with Celtic construction on and off for the past 30 years. Fredric Brilliant is the real deal. One of the few remaining authentic French timber frame builders in the USA.
His work inspired, methods old world, each home, barn or cabin a price of art.
