In 2020 - during the pandemic - I led the repaving project of 'Rhus Ridge Road' and 'Bassett Lane', 2 private roads located in Los Altos Hills, Santa Clara County. These roads had been paved approximately 50 years earlier and patched but were both in bad shape.
We asked several companies to provide quotes and had already engaged in advanced discussions with one company, when a friend encouraged me to reach out to American Asphalt.
I met Steve Barrett, who provided an alternate competitive quote and all neighbors agreed to award the contract to his company.

No responsibility whatsoever for their trucks or drivers as far as public safety. I was told they have a liability to back their drivers, which means the public has no voice. Rocks falling from an American Asphalt truck, two hitting my car and while backing off a third blasted my windshield leaving it cracked. No other cars nearby.Minding my own business coming home from work. 880 northbound. I was told people drive around looking for trucks to blame. I work and have my own money, I would appreciate forming my own reputation and not be categorized among scam artists. I have repaired windshields

We been doing the asphalt seal every 3-4 years and every time we would have some issues with stenciling, either with parking numbers, fire lines or handicap areas).
AMERICAN ASPHALT spend extra time ahead of the project to make sure they document everything before they start the asphalt seal.
Steve is very professional, knowledgeable and responsive ( he is an early bird so don't call him late in the afternoon). :)
Kudos to Carlos and their entire crew they start and finished the project very clean!

American Asphalt resurfaced my condo complex. I don't have much experience with asphalt contractors or jobs, but I was not impressed with the work. When the workers cleaned and prepped the trash receptacle area, they simply blew the trash on the ground onto the sidewalk and into the bushes- huge pieces of trash that would have been easy to simply throw into the dumpster. I understand they are not garbage men, but honestly it took a ridiculous amount of effort to blow the debris the distance they did. Also, the parking signs said we'd be able to re-enter at 4pm, but blockades were still

There super intendent to only talk to him in Spanish not English even though his English is fine.zI had an a ppl appointment with president Shel Waggener and he intentionally did not see me even after I called to confirm he disregarded our honored meeting. I worked with Alex Christiansen, who gave me a very competitive proposal. But what separated this company from the others I received bids from was the customer service. I reached out to American Asphalt in November 2016 to get a estimate on repaving my parking lot. I was expecting a estimator to come out and survey the parking lot, but instead I got a email of the contract and a Google Earth image of my parking lot highlighted for around 4400 Sq Ft. We had a complete replacement of our HOA driveways last fall, and American Asphalt was selected after a bid process. Alex Christianson handled the bid process and the project management for AA. Terrible company. Totally disorganized. They were hired by our HOA to slurry seal the roads in our development. They sent out contradictory notices during the weeks leading up to work starting. They put signs up telling us not to park on streets on certain days and then never turn up to do the work. Instead we get new dates hung on the door later in the week.
They post start times on street signs of 8am (repeated in all the notices) and then tell is via door hangers that it starts at 7am.

Our family hired them to do a shared driveway with 2 other owners. Not very service oriented company. Not good at communicating well. Not good at explaining the project well. Does not follow through well. You have to call them over and over. We dont get the feeling they appreciate the work nor perhaps need the work. They were supposed to and promised to come back to do work for us and never did.
The cost is more reasonable then some other places but the headache is not worth it. Should have gone with the other bid.
The driveway itself looks ok but overall not as good as it could have been.

I originally contacted them on April 4th by filing out their inquiry form on their website. I received an email response the next day stating that I would shortlyreceive a call from their customer service staff to discuss my project. A week went by with no call and I called them. Got voice mail. A couple of days later I received a call saying that an estimator would call me. Still waiting three weeks later.
If you don't want the work just say so up front. Now I've wasted a month of my time waiting for these fools to call. So much for Diamond Certified service.

Couldn't be happier with AMERICAN ASPHALT and Steve. Commercial Parking lot in Burlingame CA. Steve bid the job within 24hrs after contact. Matched and bettered the other 2 bids. His crew arrived on the start day as planed and completed the job on the date promised.

Oh man, I was also accosted on the road by one of these trucks. He honked at me for driving slow, which is fine, I moved out of his way, but then he tailed me for about five miles. I don't get worked up about aggressive drivers, but I just thought it was rather unprofessional, and I think it's funny I'm not the only one who's commented on this guy's road rage lol.

I called American asphalt company for estimate my backyard put asphalt. I scheduled an appointment with Rudy when the appointment came. he did not show and did not not call. I called him to follow up with him he said it was not on his schedule so he did not show. When I asked him his for estimate and then he asked me approximately how many square-foot .
Then he asked me to give him approximately how much how many square foot our back yard was. I told him about 5000 square feet. He said about $12,000.
