We empower students to develop practical building and repair skills through a wide range of fun, hands-on classes. We are currently offering virtual seminars and in-person classes. Over 2,000 volunteers help us build community resilience through reuse every year. ReBuilding Center is a climate justice organization on a mission to make reuse and repair accessible to all as a means to reduce waste, end overconsumption, and empower homeowners and renters by making better use of our existing resources. We know that the ability to perform home repairs is one of the key factors in keeping people safe in their homes and and resilient in the face of climate change, especially people living with low incomes.
ReBuilding Center acknowledges that Black, Indigenous, and communities of color are most affected by the impacts of this climate crisis.
ReBuilding Center also recognizes that the traditional, white-dominant environmental sector continues to disproportionately exclude these very communities from building power and accessing services and investments designed to tackle our ever expanding climate crises, and that most environmental movements would not have succeeded without contributions and sacrifices made by Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.

They don't care about ripping off loyal customers, used to love this place but now we can't stand to even drive by. Paid $40 for some furniture when we got our new place, ended up having car problems and could no longer pick it up the weekend we planned to. Talked to someone and told them to just sell it and we were told to come in and get our refund when we could. Drove 25 minutes to just be told we had to wait for Ella rose, they wrote our number down for her to call. Never heard from her. Even tried calling to reach her a few times, no luck and she refused to just give us a call back. We would

This is a wonderful place. They always have a huge selection of items for sale. Sometimes items definitely seem a little over priced for being second hand, but don't let that detour you. Products range from doors, to cabinets, to claw foot rubs, various type wood and trim, etc. Be sure to check them out for your next project.

Great pricing (usually lower than postings even make me expect) on used abd reclaimed or unused excess materials - lumber, tile, windows, drawers, blinds, nails, screws, etc. They also have some tools, mostly pretty rough-looking but probably some gems among them. Staff are super friendly, too, but don't pester. Sounds like they also do workshops and building/crafting contests.
Down sides: I'm not sure they have any sort of "shopping cart" (they have gear to move things as needed, but nothing to carry around with you, nor space for that to be very reasonable) and their setup is NOT friendly for

What I love about the concept behind the ReBuilding Center, it keeps so many materials out of the landfills and that you can go there and find exactly what you need and repurpose it. Their mission is fantastic! I've used them hundreds of times for many projects from home improvement, remodeling, as a source for props for both theater and movies set decoration. Today I'm repairing my swinging Butler's door between the kitchen and dining room and I found exactly what I needed after going on a treasure hunt. Thank you ReBuilding Center for all that you do.

ReBuilding Center is a hardware store, thrift shop, volunteer program, school, date night activity, and more, all wrapped in one.
It is so fun to browse their overflowing alleys for project inspiration.
I have donated some materials and am glad to know they're going to be reused rather than thrown into a landfill.
Most of all I appreciate their classes. I have learned how to make a table, little library, and garden bed, including how to use all the tools associated with the project.
I love the impact RBC makes on the Portland environment & community!

Although the selection was sparse for what I was looking for, I did find the perfect bookshelf to turn into a raised garden bed for $10. Couldn't even find dirt for that price! It allowed me to make a donation and a rave review on the excellent staff who helped every step of the way. So pleased that I can grow chilies and herbs in a place with plenty of sun!

Well isn't this just a neat little place. Signed the girlfriend and I up for a date night for a class here to make boxes. Nevermind that it was during the day for four hours. I complain about the length of time but honestly it was needed. We were reluctant at first to sign up because neither of us have used any of the equipment and we were sure someone was going to lose a limb. However when the class was over we successfully used 3 pieces of equipment and learned things about a measuring tape that we didnt know about. Lots of "why didn't I already know this" moments. I have been here a few times now, and can say that I am fully and completely impressed. As a recent homeowner, I have discovered that essentially any home improvement or maintenance project seems to run on the high side and more over, to get anything g of quality runs even further into pricing. This place makes those improvements hurt the pocket book much less.
The extremely spacious location is divided into multiple central areas. One for doors, another for plumbing, electrical and then lumber. Each area is well organized

This place is a crafters dream come true! The ideas are even posted for you on what you could repurpose each item for. They had 4 isles of doors, windows, shelves, you name it you could practically build yourself a house with all the stuff this magical building contains. I can't wait to come back and load up on all the goodies. If you need something for your house check this place first it surely has something you need.

Why does the excited expectation of shopping at the Rebuilding Center often not measure up to the actual experience? We'll it's all about whether you find a treasure. Or not. Well, that and the fact half of the year it can be absolutelysofrickencold in the warehouses. So bundle up people! Don't set your expectations sky high, and enjoy the hunt.
I've seen the coolest stuff here: beautiful custom wood cabinets removed from federal buildings, to a multi hued pink flower shaped sink (way cooler than it sounds).

I came here to take an intro to carpentry tools class, and I totally spaced on looking through their warehouse of stuff so I can't comment on that. However, the class was FANTASTIC. I walked in never having operated a power tool of any sort other than a drill, and while working through the class I learned that they are not scary, simply looking at a tool will not result in my fingers being cut off, and they are actually quite easy to understand and operate safely. The instructor, April, was patient and gave us a ton of practical information about the tools and made sure to give us free time

I bought a used window for $10 and painted the frame gray to match the yellow wall paint. Then I taped a couple of prints at the back of the glass. It made my bathroom really nice. This place is for you if you like creating things out of used materials. They can be very busy at times and hard to find someone that can put a price on your item. Overall I'm pleased!

For instance, there are hundreds of old skeleton key style lock sets and hinges of similar vintage, but almost no matching door strike plates. This implies that the folks performing the deconstruction are not properly trained to know that a door is a part of a complete system, including the hinges, knobs, lock sets... and strike plates!

It has been 13 years since I moved to Portland. For 13 years I have had what can only be described as a love affair with my house, a 100+ year old bungalow that I want to do right by at every DIY opportunity. Friends and neighbors have sung the praises of the ReBuilding Center for as long back as I can remember. And I have visited, too many times to count over the years, only to leave empty-handed, dejected, and wondering what is so wrong with me. Do I lack the eye necessary to locate just the right tile, or replacement molding, or front door? Am I so void of vision that I fail to see what others

I love the Rebuilding Center. I've brought old building products there to be resold and reused and I've bought a few cabinets, some lumber, and some other odds and ends there. Most recently I bought a lightly used kitchen cabinet to go over our washer to neaten up that area. $25 and a cleaning rag later, we had a good quality orphan cabinet serving a new purpose.

This is an amazing place. When I walk through and look at the windows, wood, tiles, doors, fixtures, I get that feeling of boundless possibilities. Kind of the same as when I browse hardware stores, but it's different here. When I browse a hardware store I'm aware of all the things that can be made, but the outcome is already determined, the plans are in place, the parameters have been established. This place is kind of incredible. Its a thrift store for home remodling. They have all kinds of stuff for your home. So far everything I have seen has been used before, but what a resorce for someone trying to match something! It is all devided into type of Items, sinks, lights, tile, cabinets...the list seems to go on forever.
While much of the stuff may look like trash to the untrained eye with a little TLC it may match what you already have or at least be in period so it doesn't stick out. Besides that used door here will cost you a lot less then a new one.

This simply a cool place to go to get stuff for your home. That is, if you are a fix-it kind of person. This isn't slot A, tab B, IKEA furniture. This is sanding, refinishing, painting and make that cool piece work in your house. Reclaimed wood flooring, windows, doors, shelving, mantle places, molding and I'm sure fixtures were around as well. I didn't wander for too long.
Huge places, a few buildings actually and friendly staff. Just look for the people with the hammer logos. Enjoy.
