I've worked with Jeff before when he worked for another plumbing company. He did great work then and he does excellent work now on his own. My sump pump gave out in the spring when all the snow we had suddenly melted. This flooded my basement and while I was able to pump out the water myself I didn't know what I was going to do to get the pump replaced. I have an elderly parent at home and the pandemic was still in full force. If you have a difficult plumbing job, and I'm not talking about fixing a toilet, although I am sure they are great at small jobs too, this is the best plumbing company in Chicago. Bar none.
I had ridiculous sewer issues in my house, persisting over several years, that no fewer than 4 previous plumbers looked at and failed to fix. One of those companies I am about to pursue in Court because I spent thousands of dollars on their "repairs" and they just made my problems worse, including leading to rodents entering my basement.
I am so thankful that I was introduced to The Plumbing

They replaced a wax seal on a Toto Neorest toilet. This is a little more complicated than a normal toilet but does not take much longer. I was surprised when the repairman said the charge is 495 for the job; it's not by the hour. I paid 200 last year for the seal on a Neorest in another bathroom; that plumber works for my general contractor but he was working out of town and Jose was already here and I gave the go ahead. He started the work then found a bolt that needed to be drilled out. Another $100. That annoyed me. This was to be by the job without mention of extra charges for

This is a 2-part review. I agree with all the reviews as to professionalism, response, etc. Jeff did some valve work for me a couple of years ago and it was fine - expensive but fine. And, all the positive attributes were present.
2 weeks ago I asked for a quote to hook up my new sink, which is 2 inches deeper than the previous. I sent the schema for the new sink, a diagram of present hookup, measurements and pics of all. Folks, I got an $850 quote! $850 is exorbitant for this work, plus a time quote of 1/2 day. I got several other quotes, around $250 + 1 hour. I wrote Jeff to make sure that

On May 1, after several days of heavy rain, my 100+ year old dry(?) basement flooded with 3-4 inches of water. My son-in-law recommended The Plumbing Department Inc. Two very nice plumbers, Jeff and Jose, arrived quickly and on time. They reported good news, the sump pump was working and bad news, tree roots were blocking the sewer line. They augered and drained the basement and (based on my info) installed a second cleanout near the front of the house to lengthen viewable/augerable pipe all the way to the city main line. Not surprised one bit to see all the rave reviews here. A few years ago, I was driving my kids home from school, where a plumbing emergency was waiting for me when I got home. I can't remember what the problem was since we had so many plumbing issues (125-year-old house). It's nearly impossible to find servicemen now a days who don't try to rip you off, especially here in the city. However, if you have any plumbing needs - Jeff is your guy!
We called on a Saturday morning when I noticed it started raining in our kitchen while my husband was in the shower - water was dripping right through the ceiling. Jeff and team were nothing short of phenomenal! After the 2019 Polar Vortex in Chicago, our condo association experienced a burst pipe at 8:30 am on a Saturday morning. Jeff was upfront about scope of work and cost when I explained the issue. They were very quick in locating the burst pipe, and although they had to cut into our wall, they displayed great care in making the least impact possible. I called The plumbing department to see if they could replace my garbage disposal. I described how it made a humming sound and then refused to work. I figured I'd be buying a new disposal and be out at least $700. NOPE. He walked me through what to do over the phone, and my disposal started to work again! We have an old house with complicated plumbing and have now worked with Jeff and his crew several times since our initial emergency water heater replacement. Antique sink clogs, shower clogs, ancient toilet fixes, sewer video, sewer jetting, catch basin inspections - you name it, this guy is amazing. Hands down the best plumber Ive ever used.
Prompt, professional, and most importantly great at what they do.

Excellent Service! Great turnaround!
This is the second job I've had Jeff/Joey from The Plumbing Department (TPD) on. They're great. Very professional. Very polite. Impeccable work.
The first job was just some general plumbing in the kitchen and bathroom. Joey was great! The most recent was tonight when they came at a moment's notice to repair a leaking gas pipe. One of the coldest nights we've had here in the city and they were here within the hour and had everything fixed in one shot. Great Work, Jeff & Joey!!

We were referred to The Plumbing Department by Goode plumbers as they were so busy they couldn't come for 2 days. I called Jeff and got through to him right away. We were happy that Jeff was able to come over afew hours later.
He called before he arrived, we were quoted a fixed price and he arrived when he said he would. Jeff was able to unclog our old drains and clogged sink where we had failed. He also recommended what we should do so it didn't happen again. Would use again.
