Based in St Albans, Hertfordshire, Rug Maker designs and manufactures bespoke handmade Nepalese modern rugs. The company was established in 1989 by Julian Blair and Richard Mathias and originally specialised in retailing high quality oriental carpets. As styles and customer requirements changed so did the company and 'Rug Maker' was created to provide a bespoke service not readily available in rug making industry.

Services
We have numerous colour tufts to choose from, so there is no need to compromise. We also offer a 'Dye to Match' service. We have a selection of yarns & many different weaving techniques which can all be incorporated to produce the perfect rug. Our presentation package then allows the 'virtual' bespoke carpet to be viewed in situ prior to manufacturing.
A contemporary rug exhibition in a public gallery is a lesser-spotted occurrence these days. We have introduced a new collection this year of Distressed Turkish rugs with 2 million tufts per sq meter. Rug maker are a true pleasure to work with. Richard and Julian are always available to talk through ideas and work very hard to find new solutions for manufacturing challenging designs. The results are exquisite quality rugs and an enjoyable process! The rugs fully capture the iconic design of the Machin Stamp.

I very seldom write positive reviews and this is one of them. Having been failed by 'modern-rugs uk' online seller I was searching for a reputable rug sellers who had rugs in stock - and have come across the Rug Maker. They had a great range of rugs in stock and even had a rug we liked. So I called the store and asked for the rug to be reserved for me. We visited the shop in St Albans the same day and were greeted by a very pleasant and knowledgeable gentleman who showed us different rugs and explained their origin, manufacturing process etc. We were able to buy a fantastic wool and silk rug at
