Services
A live edge slab is different from regular board lumber. Typically live edge slabs are much wider than regular lumber and span the entire width of the log from which it was cut. When milling live edge slabs, the natural contour of the log is left on the tree, giving the board a variety of unique characteristics.
Set the tone with a surface texture and specie that is the backdrop for meals, homework, family gatherings, everyday comfort. Integrate a bar or cutting surface. Enjoy meal preparation and family or friends time together. Consider the location. Is it a work surface or for entertaining and dining? Is it a wet location or dry?
Prices are calculated using Board Feet (bf), which is a measure of volume, as opposed to area (square feet) or length (lineal feet). For example: To calculate the board feet in an 4/4 ash board that measures 1-inches thick by 8-inches wide by 8-feet long, the math would look like this: 1 x 8 x 8 12 = 5.3 board feet.

This is my second time working on a custom wood piece. We just moved to back to Virginia & were so happy to find Local Wood in Berryville. They really know their stuff and are super helpful! Doesn't matter if you want a completely finished piece or a little bit of a DYI project! Gary is phenomenal (and Wayne on the weekends!) Check them out!

I have been purchasing wood and slabs from them for five years and I am never disappointed. Great selection of woods and sometimes there is wood which has been dressed 4S in the bins and he sells at rough wood prices. His wood is always 6-9% and usually closer to six. They are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Excellent selection of hardwoods, and reclaimed lumber, best place to get live edge slabs in the area. Also make furniture, flooring, trim, counter tops and mantels.

Working with Ben and his team was so easy and great. We rented a few wine barrels from them as well as a live oak edge for our bar top. People were complimenting them all night and honestly everything was very affordable. The Local wood team was very flexible, and they even worked with us when we had a bit of a timing issue and weren't able to pick them up on time. I would definitely recommend them if you need any furniture or decorative wood accents for your wedding.

The staff is more than accomadating and super friendly to boot. They stuck with me and remained pleasant even though I changed my mind on the product I wanted and cut them down to size. There office/warehouse/supplies are gorgeous and I would highly recommend them to any craftsmen.

Our experience with Local Wood
They have a wide selection of interesting wood. They listened to our needs and planned carefully to match them. The project had its quirks but they easily resolved all requirements. The cost was quite reasonable for precision craftsman built in furniture. The resulting, unique wine room exceeded our expectations. There is no question in our minds to whom we will go for future custom woodwork: Local Wood!
Thank you Scott & Don,

Helpful & polite, I showed up a few minutes prior to closing and was sold precisely what I needed. Admittedly I was drooling over their custom furniture, countertops, trim work, fireplace mantles, iron work and other art work but I only needed some lumber.
typically I rate 4 stars for a place that has meet every need unless they go above and beyond but since this is small business (not a big box store) & I am the first rater I feel obligated to give the full five. I recommend checking this place out even if it is just to drool.
