Hello my name is Mike Donahue and I am the owner of Gas Fireplace Repair Specialists. With more then 28 years in the gas fireplace field I felt it was time to start a company dedicated to gas fireplaces. In November of 2009 I opened Gas Fireplace Repair Specialists with the goal to provide the type of service that most people need, but have a hard time finding.
Gas fireplace, gas log set and vent free gas products need regular professional service by a qualified technician. Manufactures recommend professional maintenance on an annual basis. To choose a qualified gas fireplace service technician, get recommendations from friends and neighbors then make sure they are NFI certified (nficertified.org) as well as licensed, bonded and insured.
Most gas fireplaces are designed to operate without a blower, but a blower will help to increase the efficiency of the fireplace and help warm your room. Soot is common on vented decorative gas logs and will not affect the operation of them. Soot should not occur in vented gas inserts and will require a certified gas specialist to adjust it.

I just had my gas fireplace serviced for the first time by this company. The quality was far better than what I experienced in the past from others. The technician (Rob) was very thorough - he took his time doing an excellent job of cleaning, inspecting and servicing the unit. He also answered my many questions and was exceedingly pleasant. I called GFRS because we were smelling propane from our propane insert. The woman I spoke with was very friendly and accommodating, gave their site visit price up front. They have a technician that works evenings, which was convenient. Donald showed up to our house on time, and wow! He found our issue right away, there was a WRONG connector behind the insert. He replaced the connector quickly and efficiently, explained what he was doing and why. Couldn't be happier with the gas fireplace and installation that Mike (Gas Fireplace Repair Specialist, Lothian, MD) sold us. He and his team are consummate professionals with great attitudes. Everything was explained well and done as promised. Had my gas fireplace serviced by Gas Fireplace Repair Specialists on December 20, 2018. The scheduling process was efficient and the technician showed up right on time. Rob, the fireplace technician, was professional, courteous, and personable. He took great care in all aspects of my fireplace service. He explained to me exactly what he was doing and why.
