Bellwether Design-Build is a custom home builder, located in Asheville, North Carolina. We are a design build firm, meaning we are involved in our projects from the initial design, site planning, and throughout the entire construction process. We are fluent in all aspects of fine home building, but we are best known for our extraordinary attention to design, detail, and sustainable building practices.
A "design-build" project encompasses all phases of construction: architectural design, interior design, landscape design and construction. We've found it's best for clients to assemble the best team possible at the start of a project. That's because building costs alone don't drive the price of a home.
Appalachian mountain land is beautiful and worth building on for the perfect mountain view, but these steep slopes can present unique building challenges. We have experience designing and building on all types of lots from very steep private lots to flat land in local developments. We can advise you on the best use of land, site layout, and appropriate building technologies before you buy a lot.
From a simple set of floor plans to full-scale custom drawings with interior design specifications, Bellwether Design-Build customizes packages so you only pay for what you want or need. We can make suggestions to tweak a basic home plan or we can completely design a brand new custom home for you. We have already left one review but wanted to again recommend Brad Rice. Working with his company to build our house was and has been a great experience. We’re ten months into our new home and Brad continues to be easy to work with when questions about small issues come up. This is very much appreciated for a first time home builder. Thank you Brad! We used Bellwether in the construction or our new home. Working with them was wonderful from the start. They helped us design the home we wanted and kept us in budget. We feel very fortunate to have found them, and we would recommend them to anyone! Before building, we heard that building a new home could be a very stressful experience, but, with Brad's expertise, we found the experience to be very smooth. We just purchased a exceptionally well built and stunning home that Brad Rice and his company, Bellwether Builders built 14 years ago. The previous owner had little information on the house, its history and build. We researched and found the builder, Brad Rice. After contacting him, he graciously answered our questions about the history and build of this house over the phone, and eventually offered to take time out of his schedule to drive over to our house to not only see how the house looked after last seeing it 14 years ago, but to also walk around the house with us, answering all our questions

Bellwether Builders does a tremendous job not only building affordable spec homes in the community, but can also build multi-million dollar mansions customized to your fit. I have been involved with him on several projects and Brad is always ready to get the job done and help folks turn their dreams into reality. I have met several of the home buyers, and have heard firsthand what a great experience it was. And, when it comes to eco-friendly, he recently did a whole home renovation and salvaged much of the original foundation and floor systems for use with the new plan. Awesome all around!

GREAT BUILDING EXPERIENCE! We were referred by one of their previous clients. Brad helped us narrow down our site selection based on sun exposure views, and topography. Brad was also able refer us to a great home designer to draw up plans for our new home and he also referred us to an interior designer to help with interior selections. Building a house long distance can be challenging but Brad made the process very easy. Weekly conference calls, photos to keep us updated and being able to personally meet everyone who worked on our house was priceless.
