Services
Coldham and Hartman (C&H) under Tom's leadership have been providing architectural and planning services on a diverse variety of projects for Amherst College for a number of years. In my role at the College I have worked closely with the firm on many of these projects and have found C&H to be one of our very best consultants.
We believe in the creative potential of a well-coordinated, mutually respectful team. Though we are a small office, our reach is wide. Our network of consultants includes some of the most accomplished systems designers and building analysts in North America. We are active members of a community of architects, constructors, and engineers who regularly discuss and dissect issues at the cutting edge of sustainable architecture.
The value of our collaboration with NESEA is evidenced by the broad network of professional colleagues that bring depth and joy to our practice. Thomas RC Hartman is the New England representative of the AIA Strategic Council 2020, which advises the Board of Directors on the overall goals of the Institute.
C&H's Living Building at Smith College added to national database of Certified Zero Energy projects. A mini-manifesto on why and how we seek to improve the performance of our existing housing stock. Bruce, Tom, and colleagues explore case studies to analyze the feasibility of minimal active heating in high performance homes.
Winner of AIA Rhode Island 2018 Honor Award. High performance new construction on the existing footprint of a waterfront property in Rhode Island. This renovation project provided accessibility and mechanical upgrades to one of Smith Colleges most historic residence houses guided by extensive carbon modeling coordinated with campus initiatives.
