I fell in love with handmade rugs a number of years ago and this is what compelled me to enter this business. I have put some information together in this article for anyone interested in learning more about Bijar rugs. Discussed here are how they are woven and what the differences are between a Bijar rug (also sometimes spelled Bidjar) and any other Oriental rug.

My gallery, Paradise Oriental Rugs, formerly located in Sebastopol, CA is now located in Santa Rosa. I am currently selling rugs on an appointment basis at my home showroom. I also ship rugs out of state and can easily do a video for a client on any rug of interest so that all the details of a particular piece can be clearly seen.
After almost 15 years in Sebastopol, I have now moved my business to Santa Rosa, CA. My rugs are available on an appointment basis in a convenient location off of Santa Rosa Avenue, very close to downtown. Easy to find and free parking! I bought my first rug from Penny at Paradise Oriental Rugs over 20 years ago. Last week, I purchased 2 more and now I have 7! I keep going back to Penny because of the high quality, the beautiful designs and most importantly, I trust her! Her knowledge of rugs is remarkable and enthusiasm contagious. The rugs are so beautiful, I call them "floor art". Highly recommended.

Yikes! How do you give Penny anything other than 5 stars! She combines a true love for the carpets with a keen sense of what type of rug you are responsive to. The best way to shop with Penny is to have her throw down rug after rug, accompanied by a steady stream of banter about rug details, style, construction.......she will navigate on the spot to bring out those rugs that appeal most..........and then Penny will throw out a curve ball........something off formula........to see how you like it. We met Penny at her home where she has a vast collection of exquisite rugs. My wife and I had seen a few on her website we liked so we made an appointment. If you want a quality oriental rug- Paradise is the only place to go. Penny's knowledge of rugs is beyond impressive. She makes sure you understand and can recognize the quality of her curated selection. This is not the first purchase from Penny for me. I bought 3 rugs from her in 2009 and am so glad I did. A friend of mine who had moved to Dubai 5 years before saw the rugs and actually immediately laid down on the rug and started stroking it with his hands. Approximately 10 years ago I purchased 2 remarkably beautiful and well made rugs from Penny at Paradise Oriental Rugs. I have walked on the rugs daily as have family and friends. They look as good now as they did 10 years ago. Well, yesterday I bought an outrageously exquisite rug from Penny. Amazingly, she not only remembered me but the 2 rugs I bought. Based on my experience with Paradise Oriental Rugs, highly recommended! I recently purchased 2 rugs; one 6x9 for my living room and a complimentary runner for the hallway and they are gorgeous! The owner, Penny and her assistant were knowledgeable, professional and very helpful.

Walked in to see rugs, need a large rug for my dining room. My friend was waiting outside with her dog. Before I could take more than two steps in without a greeting, the man working in the store raised his voice at my friend to get the dog away from the doorway. The dog wasn't "in" the doorway. He was rude, and I immediately left. I am sure someone more polite would like to sell me a rug. I always wonder how small businesses in a small town survive when they don't treat potential customers with respect.

Unfortunately, my items were not a good fit for her inventory but she went above and beyond by giving me a personal call, providing me with expert advice and educating me on my items. In addition, she blew me away by sharing valuable insights on how selling or consigning the rugs should be handled and what to expect trying

I have known Penny, the owner of Paradise Oriental Rugs for many years, I first met her when she had a store in downtown Santa Rosa. She is a wonderful person who is very knowledgeable about Persian rugs. She has the most fabulous eye for exquisite rugs, her Sebastopol store has such a gorgeous selection - it's truly a treat to just visit and see her rugs! If you are looking for a rug she is a great person to find the perfect one.
