I pull 30-50 permits a year - 400 in the last 10 years. It's best to have a licensed contractor, like me, with proper general liability insurance pull permits when needed. Since 2002, it is the law that if a contractor has proper insurance (general liability insurance), they must provide a copy to all clients for construction work and bids.
I provide a certificate of liability and workers compensation for all work performed, covering up to a million dollars. Call me for a free consultation on your need for a chimney sweep, for fireplace repair, or just to ask a question. Of all the contractors we've hired since we've moved to the East Bay, my husband and I agree that Bob Dias is our favorite!
He was a recommendation from our realtor and we couldn't agree more. He showed up when he said he would, he was neat, his estimates were right on, he was very knowledgable, and his work is terrific. I can't wait for it to get cold so I can use my fireplaces! I did my homework about chimney repairs and kept on coming back to Bob Dias. Let me tell you there are not too many masonry contractors out there.

Bob is nothing short of amazing!
We had a consultation done with Bob about our fireplace. He was prompt , friendly , extremely knowledgeable, transparent and he was able to give us a wealth of knowledge and reassurance that our fireplace didn't have to be touched.
That being said if we are ever in need of an expert mason, Bob would be the first person we would go to in a heartbeat!

I hired Bob Dias and his team to repair the inside of a masonry fireplace. I couldn't be happier with the work, reasonable price, and most importantly they are the best people to work with.
Bob, especially, is the perfect combination of being an expert at his craft and providing excellent customer experience. Definitely would recommend him to anyone!

Called RD's Service Contractor for an inspection when I noticed water marks inside of my fireplace. I wanted a fireplace mason because I also lost a brick on the exterior butt of my chimney. Bob came (on time, when scheduled) to inspect the fireplace. He promptly showed me his company's insurance coverages (which I had already researched on the CSLB) and sent me an estimate via email for repairs. I scheduled the work. Bob and his team showed on the scheduled day and completed the repairs in a quick and competent fashion. Bob even completed a couple of "honey do" projects my

I called RD's in December in hopes to have our first fire in our fireplace on Christmas. Not knowing the condition of the firebox/chimney, I felt better having it inspected first.
I dropped the ball a bit in the midst of the holiday madness, and didn't reach out until the week before Christmas. Every other company I called was unable to come inspect our chimney except RD's. Despite being their BUSIEST season, Bob was so very accommodating and squeezed me in for an inspection. Let's just say it's a good thing we thought first before lighting a fire. Turns out there

Bob and his crew were fast, efficient, professional, and very knowledgeable. We have an old fireplace that needed work to make it safe & usable ~ another company had told us it was impossible and gave us an estimate of $4k for an insert. Bob repaired the damage to both the fireplace and the chimney & we now have a lovely safe fireplace and chimney, ready to enjoy. We give them our highest recommendation.

In today's fast paced, technological society, it's rare to find an honest contractor that is a master of a specific craft. Bob Dias is that guy. He's passionate about the work that he does and it shows in the quality of his work. He is a 3rd generation mason
specializing in chimneys and fireplaces and a vietnam veteran. He really does care about his customers. His customer service is impeccable.
He always showed up when he said he would and always called or texted to confirm. Great communication! We have a home that was built in 1925 and the chimney was broken at the roofline.

Our chimney suffered damage after the earthquake on October 16. We called a few companies and decided to go with RD's Service Contractor. Bricks had shifted and the chimney looked like it was in danger of falling over so we needed someone to come out right away. RD's immediately came out and evaluated our situation, it was as dangerous as we thought. They stabilized our chimney and began repairs. The job was pretty big but they were fast, tidy, and made our chimney earthquake safe. They are a very professional and great crew. We were surprised and happy with the cost of this big repair

Bob Dias was referred through our realtor. He was very responsive and easy to schedule with. He fixed our fireplace in less time than estimated. In addition he had given us a proposal 1.5 years earlier and honored the proposal for services completed.
I would highly recommend Bob and his services if you need a fireplace repaired!
He also recommended the exact gas logs set to buy and fireplace door and all were easy to obtain and install.

Bob Dias and crew helped us tear down our old, unstable chimney and replace it with a new one. Weeks later, we had a leak in our fireplace due to water seeping through the shoulder of the chimney. So why 5 stars?
I'd like to think that this was a rare occurrence for Bob and crew, given the other Yelp reviews, and how every inspector and contractor I spoke to during the home buying process spoke highly of Bob's work.
But more importantly, he is an honest contractor with A LOT of pride in his work. When the leak occurred, while he was reluctant to take blame, he promised to come out to

We used Bob Dias and his company to repair our chimneys in both our rentals and he did a great job. I wanted to make sure the chimneys were repaired up to code and safety standards. He went above and beyond my expectations!! The fire places are ready to use. Honesty and awesome work you can't ask for more!

Reading some of the other reviews it seemed as though they were talking about our experience with Bob Dias. Exceptional customer service, honest, on time, and no mess left when the repair was complete. Bob turned our unusable fireplace back into something the family is enjoying this winter/holiday season.

We had our fireplace cleaned by Russo's who recommended we call Bob about repairs that needed to be done. We called Bob and he gave a us an estimate. My husband wanted another just to compare and that person even recommended Bob. I can see why...the guy is first so nice and comes when he says he is going to, he was clean and quick and knew everything about the problem and just how to fix it. The job was done quickly and I was able to have a fire on Christmas Eve (he came 2 days before) . I had an appointment and had to leave and felt totally comfortable leaving he and his co worker at my home

Most of the time with contractors people leave 5 star reviews and it just means "It wasn't to bad". (See other posters comments about toddlers who missed a nap) Bob conducts himself, and does his job in a 5 star manner. We are on the end of a home addition and I have had dealings with a lot of contractors. RD's hands down one of the good ones: he shows up when he says he will, does everything he says he will, and does it in the time frame he initially gives you. He reminds me of the contractor I worked for a number of years ago, a rare gem in a sea of mediocre performance. Seriously

Bob and his team are awesome! We needed a chimney repair on a house we just purchased because it was broken at the roof line. We were so worried of it falling into the house should there be an earthquake. They were superstars! They fit us into their busy schedule and worked in the pouring rain to give us peace of mind and get it fixed. I would recommend Bob Dias and his team to anyone needing fireplace work!

We had a 5-star experience all around with Bob Dias. He came out within two days to give us an estimate, made extensive repairs to our fireplace two days later, stayed on budget and did high quality work.
He was professional and he and his partner left our fireplace clean and neat. He came when he said he would, called when he said he would, and honored the estimate he gave. He also spent time with us to make sure that we understood the principles for getting a really good fire going (how to start a wood fire, where to buy the best wood, etc.)
In this transaction, there was no room for improvement

Hired Bob and his assistant for 1 job to fix a rental. Their estimate was a bit higher than a couple of other bids; but given their reviews on Yelp, I hired them. The quality of workmanship was satisfactory but they started the job 1 week after the scheduled start date and only notified me of the delay on the day that they were actually scheduled to start. Since every other contractor needed a minimum of at least 1 to 2 week's notice, rather than starting from scratch, I proceeded to go along with them. Nevertheless, I had to compensate a tenant, since - due to Bob's delay - the place
