Your original windows add a lot of character and charm to your home. They have weathered more than 50 years of use and can have a much longer life span with some maintenance. Chances are they have survived as they are made from some very solid, high quality wood assembled with fine craftsmanship. INSIDE the existing window openings making your visible light less.

Antique windows are made of old growth wood which is more dense and rot resistant. Joints may loosen up or rot may be present, but all can, and was designed to be repaired indefinitely. It's easy to take a driving tour of bad replacement windows - shiny white vinyl, stuck on muntin bars, and flat glass.

The proportion, shapes, and wavy glass in older homes is part of the beauty and character that makes these homes so appealing. Older windows can be just as energy efficient as new windows. Through a combination of repairs and weather stripping we can make the windows snug and weather tight again. Ask any energy auditor - new thermal imaging technology can provide insight on where energy loss is happening before assuming it's the windows.
Services
Window Woman of New England was established in 2003 by Alison Hardy. The idea for the business came about after years of frustration living in old houses with drafty broken windows and dissatisfaction with replacement window options. Call it Yankee thrift, but it just made no sense to throw out windows with lots of charm and character just because they didn't look their best or were painted stuck.
We offer a wide variety of services tailored to your needs and the condition and style of your window. We offer three levels of service but can customize to your particular window issues. Typically this work is done on site and involves replacing broken sash cords with cord or chain, chipping out loose or failing glazing and patching in new glazing, and installing weather stripping.

Very responsive and professional! They worked with us to replace curved glass in two windows in our home. We are very pleased with the work and transparency around pricing, timeline, etc. Would highly recommend!

I stopped by the workshop to learn about my options for repairing a shattered window. I chose to get my sash repaired by the shop and the staff gave me a tutorial about how to uninstall and reinstall the sash, including reattaching weights and sash cords. I also attended a free open house where I learned how to replace cracked glass and was able to successfully complete another project independently at home. I can’t thank them enough for teaching me how to restore and care for my old home.

Alison and the crew never dissapoint! I've used Window Woman of New England for several jobs now and will continue to do so in the future. The latest job was a custom transom window for a re-designed doorway. The window was perfect, and constructed with traditional methods and period glass. I couldn't be happier! Highly recommend!

Always responds promptly and courteously to any question I may have. Lots of helpful advice online to assist me in restoring my 100 year old windows on my own. I look forward to the day when in person sessions are available again and will surely make the trip from Texas to attend.

After careful consideration, we decided to restore rather than replace our original windows during a renovation. Alison and her crew were very responsive, friendly, and and performed good work. I learned a lot about the history, mechanics, and upkeep of these windows, and am proud to have saved a part of New England history.

Impeccable work from this team. Restoring those beautiful, wavy-glass, *energy efficient* antique windows makes all the difference.
