1. Choose a design professional. To create a plan and detailed scope of work, most homeowners hire either an architect or interior designer, and sometimes both. Every company does things a little differently, and design licensing varies in each state. Many designers work on projects that don't involve major structural work or additions, and also offer assistance with material and color selections.
Unless you are extremely experienced in construction, you will want to hire a reputable general contractor. New Image Construction has been building room additions for over 20 years in the Orange County area. You'll want to solicit a couple of estimates from a couple of contractors. The general rule of thumb is to get 3 estimates per job.
Hiring a contractor can be tricky. I cannot say enough about the excellent job that Greg and Jake Hunt (New Image Construction) did on the remodel of our home in Spring Lake. They literally did the impossible and painted the entire house, removed our master bath and installed a new free standing tub, new flooring, new paint, new shower while installing fixtures in the powder room… and installed a new stove top in the kitchen all in just 3 weeks.
