I'm Kerry Triffin, furniture designer and owner of Fairhaven Furniture - the Alternative Home Store - in New Haven, Connecticut. Comprised of three floors of furniture and accessories, our store offers an escape into a world that is pleasing to the senses in every way.
Lao started working at Fairhaven Furniture in 2003, but he's been coming by the store since its early days as a woodshop to learn about woodworking and work on his own small projects. In 2016, Lao and Colleen became partners in the business when Kerry and Liz retired. Lao feels honored to bring Fairhaven Furniture into this next generation and to continue offering quality furniture and customer service to the New Haven community and beyond.

Great source for well designed and mostly contemporary furniture, well made, and at the same time at an excellent value. This place has always been a gem. The delivery guys were fantastic, very well trained and courteous. One complaint - the man who answers your phone needs a lesson in phone etiquette. Yikes!

I have a ekrones stressless office chair I purchased in Hawaii, and because I recently moved to new haven, I wasn't able to have it serviced. I contacted Fairhaven furniture and joe and his colleagues all were extremely helpful in assisting me with my repair. Because it was covered under warranty I didn't have to pay additional costs and they had my repair part earlier than quoted. They were all so helpful and even loaded my repair part into my car for me as I had my 1 year old daughter with me. Fairhaven Furniture has the most gorgeous collection of furniture from different sources & artists I have ever seen in one showroom. The handmade wood furniture is so beautiful I want to own everything. They also have lovely & unusual housewares, gifts, ceramics & children's toys. Really friendly & knowledgeable staff make this place a joy to visit.

I was only here once and that was a few years back. But I realized one can review other things besides restaurants on Yelp. So I had to give a shout out to this charming place.
I was here just looking around with a few other people. Not only was the furniture really nice but the people who ran it were lovely. It is nice to pop into a retail store and not have it be impersonal. This place was staffed with warm lovely people who may have been the owners but were helpful and lovely.
I do not get out to New Haven anywhere as near as much as I used to but if I do get to the area I will stop by and

Response to response: sorry, but we didn't hear from you for 6 days after delivery. You can claim you left a voice mail that day but, as I said in my original review, we didn't hear from you for 6 days, so if you left a voice mail it was either on the wrong number or was lost by our cell carrier.

After having a problem in communication, Colleen reached out to me. She was apologetic that my situation had occurred. She sent Lao to my home to rectify my issue regarding a love seat that I had purchased from FF. Lao was courteous, knowledgeable , skilled and helpful. He adjusted the mechanism that controls the position of each seat. It works beautifully now. I am thrilled with the product and with the customer service which I received. I highly recommend Fairhaven Furniture.

Incredible furniture selection (albeit, at extremely expensive prices) but inconsistent customer service. We have patronized Fairhaven Woodworks for 20+ years now. Ventured in a few weeks ago and there was barely a greeting from the design representatives on the floor. I was dressed in workout clothes- nothing fancy but that shouldn't matter. I continued to roam the first floor then heard the front door open. I see that it's a youngish couple who were greeted quite warmly by the staff - and even offered coffee or tea! I was so incensed, I walked out after providing a bit of customer service

I am updating my review of 8/25/15.
Our bedroom furniture was delivered in November and we could not be happier. The highlight of the furniture delivery was the delivery person, Aaron....such a wonderful young man. He introduced himself and shook our hands, came in and checked out the bedroom to size up the best way to make this delivery of very heavy furniture. He was so pleasant and friendly and it was more than obvious that he knew just what he was doing. He knew how to get this furniture up the stairs and around the corner without hitting anything along the way.

I had been looking for a new bed and dresser. Went to Vermont to look at some beautiful furniture there, but the prices were just out of my league. I had remembered Fairhaven Furniture and wanted to check out what they had. I found exactly what I was looking for...a gorgeous cherry bed and dresser and in a price range that I could afford. While I was there, I also ended up buying a bracelet and a jewelry box! This is a "furniture store" like no other!

WOW what a place!! You have to experience it. I've been to Fairhaven Furniture many times and have always found exactly what I was looking for. The most recent time I visited I was looking for a dining room table. Nicole helped me and she was great. I went back to the store twice and then called her to be sure the table I was considering was the right size and shape. She was always patience, helpful and never pushy or frustrated by my numerous questions. She even did a drawing to show me how the table would look in my dining room...and then I changed my mind! It was a difficult choice to make

We ordered a bed frame from Fairhaven in December. This place is the reason why you should shop independent! For starters, their shop is in an old manufacturing warehouse. I wish I could remember which one. Anyway, my husband went earlier in the day and brought me back later to see the bed he picked. The sales agent remembered my husband's name and re-greeted him warmly.
They had many fun tchotchkes in the shop in addition to furniture, so if you're not necessarily in the market for furniture, go check them out anyway.

If you're looking for something different that you won't find in the bigger box furniture stores, then this is your place. Just be warned, you're going to pay for the exclusivity. The cost for having a one-of-kind or conversation piece sit in your living room doesn't come cheap. But the likelihood of coming across somebody else having the same exact thing will be almost nil.

This is a great local store. My wife and I just bought some furniture here and had a good experience. We had been shopping at some other (chain) stores, where the salespeople either smother you with attention or totally ignore you. The salesman here showed us around, but knew when to back off to let us discuss the furniture.

The furniture is expensive. No doubt about that. However, the woodwork is just amazing, and if you are looking for unique, well-built craftsmanship to invest in, this is the place to go. You can order anything custom made, too.
I also recommend this place for those of you looking for decently priced jewelry (earrings from $10-$45, necklaces from $15-$70) for Christmas and other occasions. They have really cool contemporary jewelry, and if today was anywhere near
