The word live edge refers to a cut of wood that has the natural edge of the tree, which is the outer part of the tree. Live edge slabs have curvy edges as opposed to straight edge lumber. Straight edge tables are made out of dimensional lumber. Each project is unique and the time it requires to build will vary based on the detail and complexity of the project.

I worked with Marcia and Satoshi on an office project for a client in downtown Honolulu. They did an outstanding job of transforming the the existing 80's laminate counter tops into live-edge monkeypod counterparts. Marcia was extremely helpful, very easy to communicate with, and I couldn't be more pleased! I would highly recommend Satoshi Yamauchi Woodworks for any custom woodworking job!

Satoshi and his wife Marcia were able to take my rough, hand-drawn sketch for a tv console with shelf and matching desk, and translate it to an elegant, timeless piece of furniture that turned our fragmented living room into a seamless space.
It is not only the impeccable craftsmanship that we will continue to enjoy every day, but it was great fun working with them to conceptualize and agree on a final design. I didn't have unlimited budget, and Marcia was able to help me determine where we could lower costs without sacrificing quality.

We love our beautiful monkeypod slab dining table. We were recommended to contact Marcia & Satoshi by our friends and we are very happy to have found them. First, Marcia came over to our house to get a feel of our home and decor. Satoshi and Marcia then came up with some designs. We appreciated their attention to detail and the time and focus they put to our project. Needless to say, we were stunned by Satoshi’s craftsmanship. I believe he is one of the very few furniture makers who are able to build fine furniture.

We recently renovated our kitchen and dining areas. We were searching for a new dining table that would match the new wood flooring and decor. After looking at the many dining tables at all the local furniture companies, we found only veneer table tops that felt cheap. I could not find a solid hardwood table that would fit the new dimensions of the new dining area and could comfortably accommodate eight people. I commissioned a desk for my office. Not only did Satoshi craft a desk that met all my specifications--including pull-out keyboard tray that can be adjusted left and right and a printer cabinet with casters--the final product looks amazing, thanks to his great choice of wood and drawer handles. Two years on, it still looks fantastic.
