Over the years (Heartwood is getting old!) we have been planting trees at schools and donating to silent auctions for organizations around the City of Madison and through Dane County. This year that effort has sprouted some wings, and we are getting more involved in actively seeking out opportunities to promote and plant trees in the communities that support our business.
We at Heartwood are aware of our impact on the broader environment. Although we operate in a "green" industry caring for plants and we promote growing and maintaining our urban canopy, many of the tools we need to accomplish our work, like chainsaws, chippers and large trucks, carry a heavy carbon footprint and contribute to the broader problem of climate change.

I called Heartwood because a neighbor had used them and said they were great. He was right. They were pleasant, courteous, professional ... everything you hope for from someone working on your property. They use no heavy equipment -- nothing to mess up your yard or driveway. They just climb the trees with a saw. They did a lovely job pruning my old trees, they cleaned up carefully, they cut to fireplace size and stacked the oak trimmings for me, and they were much quieter than I expected, too -- I barely heard them from inside the house. Five enthusiastic stars.

Heartwood has always been responsive and a good value. Recently they helped us clear a 2' limb off the roof during a windstorm. They responded less than an hour after the limb fell and had it off the roof by a few days later. In the past when I've used their service they showed that they really cared for the fact that there are relatively few old shade trees close by and that they cared to preserve and protect what was valuable to us.

Heartwood Tree Company were such an amazing help to us this past year! As first time homeowners we had no clue how to start thinking about the upkeep of our many trees. We used Heartwood for removal of a large honey locust tree in our backyard as well as trimming back branches of a silver maple in the front yard that hung over the roof (leaves & debris were falling into our gutters). Brent Valentine was super good in responding to our concerns & in doing excellent cleanup after the work was completed. Highly recommend!

We have been so happy with Heartwood Tree Company's services, having used them on several trees and at two different houses. Their staff is very polite and friendly, but no-nonsense and professional. They are efficient and clean up the area thoroughly. And without fail, our trees look healthy and GRACEFUL - not choppy or awkward - after their care. These guys are worth their weight in gold!

We have used Heartwood on multiple occasions and their work has always exceeded our expectations. Our most recent project was the removal of a large maple tree located within a perennial garden, adjacent to a deck and close to our house. There were many obstacles for Peter and his crew to work around (house, deck, plantings, landscape lighting, sprinkler system) but they completed the removal with surgical precision and left without a trace. Quality people are key to the success of any business… something Heartwood has definitely figured out!

After sadly removing some diseased ash trees from our property, I was looking for some replacement trees. As these trees would be prominently placed in our front yard and there were existing nearby trees, I really wanted to be thoughtful about what trees to plant. I also knew I had no desire to plant the trees myself. I found Heartwood online and loved that they consult about what trees to plant and do the planting, too! It is obvious they really know and love trees and value the urban canopy in our region. Brent was super helpful and helped me choose a Tulip Tree and a Bur Oak. Planting went smoothly

Heartwood is a top-notch company. I can't recommend them enough. Their philosophy on tree work is a good match for mine. They love trees and it's obvious in the work they do.
I got in touch with Brent at Heartwood to help me with some tree clearing in our woods near Verona. They sent a crew of three for a full day of work. We had a large storm damage tree hung up in another tree, and then a bunch of pruning and removal of trees to thin a crowded woodland and open up space in the canopy for smaller oak trees to grow into.
Brent came for a visit and walkthrough and was super helpful with planning
