We had the opportunity to help two South Park homeowners renovate their historic Spanish-style home to perfection. When they first saw this house, the homeowners were blown away by the uniqueness of the backyard. Nestled in a canyon, the backyard had mixed elevations and retaining walls that dated back 100 years.
Nestled in our own neighborhood of South Park, we had the privilege to upgrade a stunning historic home on 29th Street. Built in 1909, this lot did not offer a large space to work with, but we took the challenge and maximized our client's entertaining space, creating a dreamy backyard for those perfect San Diego evenings.
We love a clean slate, and Berryman Canyon Road was the epitome of a fresh start. We complemented a newly built home with a full outdoor design with elements for the whole family! The site is long and narrow, so we created a linear living space that ensured there was plenty of connection between lounging, cooking, and soccer playing.
We are no strangers to the coastal design, we had previously completed a project just a few blocks down (browse the photos of our first project on this street here). When talking with the client, it was clear that the main goal was to create a tranquil outdoor living space, one that offered the potential to hold a party or two when necessary!

We just recently renovated our backyard with James and we had an amazing experience. James exceeded our expectations on every detail. He was always very professional and respectful. John, Andrew and Luis at Deep Rooted Designs were an absolute dream to work with. I wanted to re-do the front of my house which included building a patio and eco-friendly landscaping. I first found Deep Rooted Designs on instagram. I was looking for a company that could design my project and also do the work. I called around to a few companies looking for someone. James was referred to me by another company. He came out to my home and had some great ideas for me. Unfortunately my home is too far north in San Diego for him to help me. The good news is he took the time to refer me someone he knows and has worked with. I would highly recommend James if you have a landscape project. I found him to be very honest and upfront.

What I liked most about working with the Deep Rooted Design crew was their desire to make sure we were satisfied with the end result. As with any project, you have things that come up that change and evolve as the project is underway. The key is making sure you're on the same page, communicating as much as possible along the way so you end up with what you had envisioned.
In the beginning the design was very well executed by Megan. Her knowledge of plants and design, as well as, her ability to take my ideas and skillfully render them into a beautiful blueprint made this process very enjoyable

These guys are masters of their craft. James came to our home for a consult and was very open and honest about how they work, the style of their work, and what scope of projects they're best at. Despite their being our top pick, we didn't end up being able to work with them due to budgetary constraints at the time and even STILL, James came back our home after he knew this and graciously helped talk through what we could do within our budget and even offered up his ideas knowing we may end up doing the work ourselves. James Fahy (Owner) distinguished himself above the other firms we interviewed given his knowledge, proposal and enthusiasm. Their creative concepts encompassed our desire for a tranquil environment that allowed for improved usage of our yard and water. Unlike most contractors (especially landscapers) James was fully involved in the project from… start to finish. His attentiveness and responsiveness during the entire process were AMAZING! In October 2015, we began looking for a landscaping company to help design and install a drought-tolerant garden in our front yard. We had been approved for one of the California rebates, and needed the job to… be completed on a timeline. We began with a patch of weeds and crabgrass, irrigated by the 1954 sprinkler system that was original to the home. Within a matter of days, our yard was transformed with a unique design, easy-to-use timed irrigation, and beautiful, drought-tolerant plants.
