Founded by company President Mary Tappouni in 1997, Breaking Ground Contracting is a commercial and institutional general contractor who has been redefining construction for over twenty years. After graduating from the University of North Florida with degrees in both Construction Management and Finance, Mary Tappouni founded Breaking Ground Contracting. Mary has a diverse portfolio of experience including professional office, health, medical, institutional, recreational and specialty projects.
Buildings are responsible for 40% of energy use in the United States and contribute 136 million tons of construction debris to landfills annually. Breaking Ground Contracting has made a passionate commitment to sustainable construction and provides education and consulting on projects seeking Florida Green Building Coalition, Green Globes and LEED certification.

Breaking Ground and Mary did a phenomenal job on my spa space! Mary is attentive and gets the job done. She took lead of my project and everything flowed smoothly. What I like most is that everything they completed in space, they followed completely through. Mary was involved in the permitting process and even corresponded with my property managers when needed. She was flexible with my budget and was the only contractor willing to get me what I needed within the amount I was willing to invest. Mary is pleasant to communicate with and always follows up where necessary. I highly recommend Breaking

A great contractor. During the past several years, they've done for me -- one new commercial construction project on the Westside, and one two story renovation in the city core. They are about to begin a three story renovation project, also in the city core. I've great confidence in this contractor, as they've demonstrated consistent ability to proceed with efficiency to solve problems and guide each project to superior results.
