Led by Landscape Architect Robert Gilmore, GLA creates beautiful landscapes that are simple + bold. Rob earned a Master in Landscape Architecture from Harvard's Graduate School of Design in 2002. Prior to this, while pursuing a BFA at the University of Michigan (1998) he realized that a passion for making art could be combined with a deep appreciation for the beauty and subtley of nature.
I began to develop an eye for sound structure and technique, and I was taught to have a certain respect for the material I was working with. His love of Landscape Architecture lies in the process of working closely with the Client to discover the unique voice that emerges when site opportunities and Client goals converge.
He encourages the use of native plants and sustainable design practices. This approach is not just good for the environment - it keeps more money in the Owner's pockets as maintenance costs are reduced or eliminated. Before launching GLA in 2009 Rob served as Senior Project Manager for Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and Gregory Lombardi Design, both in Cambridge, MA, and as a landscape designer for the Olin Studio in Philadelphia, PA.

Services
GLA is a landscape design + build studio. We see the landscape as a living sculpture that must balance the elements of composition with the dynamic forces of nature. We Listen to our Clients to understand their goals. Together, we describe a vision for the intended use + approach to the land. Our style is that which is appropriate for a given Site - it's architecture, it's natural features + its Owner's wishes.
We serve as our Client's one source for professional design + high-quality craftsmanship. In an age of hyper-specialization, we aspire to the age of the Master Builder, where design creativity and hard work in the field are closely paired. We take pride in the craftsmanship with which our designs are built.
GLA works with homeowners, institutional organizations, architects and artists. Call to schedule a free on-site consultation or to request a comprehensive list of completed projects and references. Thanks so much for all your hard work transforming our yard, deck, and driveway. It is all beautiful and we are enjoying it all.

Rob is knowledgeable, professional and really takes pride in his work. Rob customized a unique plan that worked perfectly for our situation (small yard in a historic neighborhood). He took the time to understand what we wanted and really paid attention to detail. As problems and changes arose, he and his crew were accomodating. We couldn't be happier with the results.

I first became acquainted with Rob by hiring him for snow plowing services in the winter. He was always very flexible and easy to deal with, and the landscape design projects showcased on his web site were impressive.
So this summer we contracted with Rob to rebuild a 20 year old round stone patio in our back yard whose stones had become canted and uneven as the ground shifted beneath them. (The site hadn't been correctly prepared in the first place.)
Rob came out and workedwith us to redesign the area around the patio, including cobblestone edging and a river rock border. He provided samples of
