The primary service area for the Joplin Association for the Blind and Low Vision Enhancement Center is a 80 mile radius of Joplin, Missouri. We serve the four state areas of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. The majority of our clients are low vision and access services through the Low Vision Enhancement Center.

We continue to expand our resources and facility to provide added low vision assistance for our clients. The Joplin Association for the Blind and Low Vision Enhancement Center provides services for children, youth and adults. Our mission is to help meet the changing needs of individuals with low vision or blindness, by addressing their needs from a physical, medical, social, and emotional approach.

Letha Dangerfield Children's Braille lending library: Volunteer workers assist with maintaining the library. We can create. The JAB facility also serves as a meeting place for the Joplin Service Club for the Blind. The Service Club has an average of. Adult and Children Support Groups have members who are visually impaired, and family members who rotate as their differing needs are met.
Services
The Joplin Association for the Blind founded in 1923 and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1925, and is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. The Joplin Association for the Blind is a United Way partner agency. Early on, JAB maintained a small office on Joplin Street where assistance was provided to individuals in cooperation with area church groups.
1 Low Vision Enhancement Center: The Low Vision Enhancement Center is our largest and fastest growing service. The Low Vision Enhancement is not a clinical setting, but an evaluation and resource center. As the number of individuals with low vision has grown, more low vision services are necessary to allow our clients to continue with the quality of life they merit.
What is Low Vision? A person with low vision has some useful vision, but has difficulty with normal daily living task such as reading, writing, and managing work or household activities. Low vision cannot be corrected through a normal eye examination. This type of vision can occurs due to birth defects, eye diseases, accidents, or aging.
