Generator's provide electricity for your home when the electricity grid shuts down either due to a calamity or a purposeful act by the utility. We provide smaller generators that power just a few items like the refrigerator, toaster oven, and some lighting or larger systems that power your entire home and turn on instantly when the grid goes down.

Smart might be okay for simple solar projects, but I do NOT recommend them for anything complicated. We went through them for a new roof, solar, and upgraded electrical box, and it was a total nightmare.
Positives - Cheapest! Definitely saved a lot compared to the other 3 quotes we got. Their workers were also friendly and respectful when on site.

1.) Communication. I spent hours trying to figure out what the status of our project was and when workers would be at our house. We had zero heads up about when folks would show up and it was only because of my calling that I found out

The sales rep was professional at first, but became rude and condescending when told we were going with someone else. He also presented outdated facts, linked to disingenuous reviews in attempts to disparage other companies, and used dubious math to try and disprove any advantages from other vendors.
I tried to engage respectfully, assuming he might just be young and new in the business. Eventually I just ignored him.

I hired Smart Solar Design for my solar and backup generator project in Mentone. I received quotes from 5 different solar companies and Smart Solar design knocked it out of the park on price and the bonus was the outstanding service. Great solar panels and micro invertors. My solar panel installers were Gene and Rein and they did an awesome job. My backup generator and EV charger installers were Nick and Omar and they went out of there way to explain how everything works on the generator and transfer switch. It is rare to be able to deal with a contractor who does what they say they are going to do, when they say they are going to do it. The customer service aspect of this company is stellar. They always got right back to me with any questions I had.
The quality of the workmanship was superb. The workers were polite, respectful and knew what they were doing.
I feel like I have just made some new friends, that's how nice these folks are to work with.

I did a through research of solar companies and narrowed my search to 4 before deciding to go with SmartSolar. The quality they offer for the price they offer is hard to beat.
We had our solar system installed and operational by mid-August.
The process from start to finish took about 2.5 months. We were told 2 months by their associate when we signed up; so that was pretty reasonable. The process from start to finish was very pleasant and everything went without a hitch.
Our system is doing great and is doing what was promised it would do. It feels great watching your SDG&E bill going

Smart Solar was amazing ! Start to end. Kelly did a great job going over the quotes and explaining the process. She was responsive and available for questions. Also helped to do pre-check of my roof inspite of being busy. There a few minor hiccups during installation which they took care immediately. The installation was on time and they followed through on what they promised. Will recommend !

Any part of Solar bid/install/warranty involves communication, there are dozens of Solar companies in San Diego and all make promises, and claim to be the best, what separates the best from the worst in my opinion is communication from start to finish of the solar install, hence the one star review for Smart Solar Design, serious lack of communication, poor follow-up, and this mysterious person LLoyd who does not return phone calls, if you believe communication is important, especially when you are going to write them a check for $15,000 or $20,000 or quite possibly a lot more, I would not consider

Smart Solar made installing solar painless and stress free. I did some research, had another company come out for a bid (everything with SS was done via email and phone calls) and decided on going with SS because of the price and because they were a neighborhood company. I was given a list of references and called many. The homeowners I spoke with all had positive experiences and were happy with the work that SS had done. So I chose them and I have no regrets. She takes special attention that her customers understand what they are looking for and helps them decide the system that is most suitable, but economical – for now and future. Having worked in construction and building services management for over a decade I have a good idea of the complexities and behind-the-scenes tasks, requirements and dependencies that need to be planned and executed to ensure a seamless client delivery. Smart Solar has refined this process to an art. One business day after their on-site completion, the SDG&E inspector was on-site and passed the installation with absolutely no issues.

I was in the process of getting quotes from different solar installers when my friend recommended Smart Solar to me. After visiting my home and discussing different options Lloyd sent me a very competitive offer for a high-quality system that I accepted.
The installation and city/SDGE inspection process was straight forward and required very minimal attention and participation on my side. The communication with Lloyd and his crew was great. They addressed a few concerns and questions I had in a timely manner.

OK these guys were fantastic from start to finish! We first found out about Smart Solar from our Next Door app. Neighbors highly recommended him and gave him nothing but excellent reviews. So we decided to talk to him first. We met with Lloyd Mills the owner and he walked us through everything on how solar works, costs & installation. Everything was laid out simply. We learned a lot with no knowledge of solar at all. We liked how he didn't try to sell us anything but loved that he really educated us!

The end result did get completed and to our liking - but not without a fight.
We went through a solar broker so we did not choose Smart Solar. The broker did. He had many good things to say, but when the work was 1/2 done and SDG&E came out, they pointed out a handful of red flags that didn't sit well with us.
The installer, Perris, self admittedly did a crappy job on our install. Not only did he do shotty work, but he made unnecessary holes in our house, he didn't weather seal anything, and he installed the conduit in the wrong place - he didn't even LOOK at the plans!

We've been kicking around the idea of installing solar panels for awhile but never got around to pulling the trigger. Our neighbors installed theirs and recommended Smart Solar. We reached out to Lloyd and he was extremely patient and answered all of our questions, sharing with us the spreadsheet he used to evaluate the payback period for our system. He explained all his assumptions and after I finally did my own analysis and number crunching we decided to move forward. Just got the installation and the reasons why I gave them this rating is that we had a dispute at the end when I was not happy with 2 minor things,
- concrete cut up and reinstall using flagstone was very poor (see pics left side is the target and right was done by SS).
- unfinished holes not patched up
- electrical conduit was misaligned
Thus I withheld the last payment until they completed it. To my surprise the owner sent a letter threatening legal action to place a lien on my property.
I was promised by the salesperson, Casey Fox, 100% Satisfaction which was was 90%.
After the threat,
