Way back in 1955, a cool (and very handy) guy named Red Brummel sold his house and used the proceeds to buy a hardware store in the Godwin Heights neighborhood of Grand Rapids. He made plumbing service calls while his wife, Louise, ran the hardware store. Word of Red's talent with pipes and fixtures soon spread - and by 1957, he was working with area real estate developers to install new plumbing into area homes and businesses.
