Carvana, an online retailer of automobiles, has opened Charlotte's first car vending machine. Located on South Boulevard near the Scaleybark light rail station, this structure displays vehicles in its 8-tier, glass clad tower while serving as a pickup/delivery location for its customers who purchase a vehicle online.
The building has a footprint of 7,900 square feet and offers a true experience for its customers. With the insertion of a coin into a slot, this automated delivery system vends the customers vehicle from the display tower, down the vehicle corridor, into a delivery bay where the customer can enter and inspect their new purchase.
The process can be watched and heard from the safety of the customer center viewing area. This concept has been constructed in six other states with more on the way. The multi-million dollar campus features a new 173,000-square foot facility located on a 98-acre parcel of wooded forest and farmland in Huntersville, North Carolina.
