Courtney Miller is an Architect with 30 plus years of experience in a wide range of building types working in Dallas, Boston, and the Bay Area. After graduating from UCLA in 1981, he worked in Dallas on large retail and commercial high-rise projects before moving to Boston in 1986. There he worked in transportation, multi-family, and institutional projects before starting his own practice in 1992 with the House on Forte Pond.

In 1995, coinciding with an award from the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association for the Solar Farmhouse, he founded the subsidiary, New England Solar Homes. One of the notable commissions was the completion of a green building feasibility study for the National Marine Life Center funded by the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust. In 2006, Courtney moved back to California to be closer to friends and family and worked for several commercial firms before re-establishing his practice in 2017.

Courtney is supremely detail oriented. Not only did he design a great looking addition to our home, but he was willing and able to take my own design notes and ideas and push them into the design. As a non-architectural designer, I appreciated him listening to and implementing my point of view. He also caught many various mistakes that the structural engineer made and had them all fixed up before permitting.

We met with Courtney when deciding what architect to go with for a home addition project. Courtney was responsive, professional, and friendly throughout the whole process. In the end, we narrowly decided to go with an all-in-one contractor instead, but we really appreciated Courtney and he gave a very competitive quote. We hope to work with him in the future.

Unfortunately nothing good to say about this architect from my initial interaction. First call he said $2000 to $4000.. Then second call he called and said it would be $8000, then just as he was speaking to me all of a sudden he went to $10,000 and then to $12,000. So from $2000 it went to $12,000.
When he appeared at the property he was unprofessional and even insulted the house. Instead of talking concretely of what he can do he kept asking me how much money I have. If you start like this there is absolutely no trust component that during the course of the work he would not have creeped up to

Hired Courtney to assist on my property - renderings and dealing with the county. He has been enthusiastic, communicative and filled with great design ideas. Depending on the size and scale of the drawings, Courtney will walk you through all the possibilities and will work at meeting you (the owner) halfway. His drawings and designs are detailed and incorporate all that I've asked. Thanks Courtney!

Ecobuild Architects did an exceptional job on our modern townhouse in Oakland.
First and foremost, the exquisite modern architectural planning makes it a pleasure to enter and move through the spacious daylit interior to our rear deck and garden. Sustainability is not simply a snap on component, but blends with the overall aesthetic affect of the home as you glance at bamboo kitchen cabinets juxtaposed with views of the bamboo garden beyond. Maybe the best complement for an advanced green home like this are the things you don’t notice. Mini-split ceiling cassettes that hardly ever come on because

Courtney was very professional every step in the process. He helped us redesign a kitchen and living room, opening it up and bringing more natural light into a very dark space. He asked a lot of really great questions, took us on a field trip to some stores to get a feel for what we liked, and did a preliminary sketch. After lots of dialogue he delivered building plan that met all of our criteria for sustainability and budget. The plans were thorough enough for my contractor to follow easily. I would recommend him to anyone.
