Make travel arrangements, if necessary, with airlines, buses, car rental agencies and hotels. Check into the laws and requirements of your new city regarding home-based businesses, professional tests, business licenses and any special laws that might be applicable to you. Take inventory of your belongings before they're packed, in the event you need to file an insurance claim later.
Air Conditioners - Consult your authorized dealer or service man on your particular model. Some sealed unites should be bolted down. Books - Books should be placed in small strong, securely tied cartons. They should be placed cover to cover, alternating bindings to prevent the pages from becoming damaged.
All licensed movers within the state of New Jersey are required by law to provide basic coverage at no additional cost to the consumer. The mover's liability is $.60 per pound per article, or the cost of repairs, whichever is less. This means that your mover will settle any claim for damage or loss based upon weight of the item, not its value.
Do public movers and warehousemen have to be licensed to operate within New Jersey? Yes. Licenses are of three types: PM: which is a license to move only; PW: which is a license for warehousing only; or PC: a combination license which permits both moving and warehousing. We used Mahwah Movers recently for a local move. Mike was excellent and very responsive in coordinating the move, and gave us all of the information we needed in preparing our home for the day of. Mike even dropped wardrobe boxes at our home for us to use, since we were unable to pick them up due to a family emergency. On moving day, 4 movers and 1 truck showed up exactly at 8:30AM as promised. They were extremely hard workers and took care of our furnishings and boxes. They worked for 7 hours straight with minimal breaks, ate in the truck to get the next load to save time, and didn't skip a beat

Sales person was really great. Packing up of our home was terrific. They stored our items for about one month. When they delivered to our new home they dropped and damaged many expensive belongings. Upon completion, we found many more damaged items and many items were missing and never delivered to us.
They sent someone to fix some of the items but not all. We tried to make a claim with them for the missing items but they ignored us and won't take our calls and will not call us back.
Stay far away from these people.

They did an excellent job, I found them on Angie's list and they were quick on reply, on time. They did an excellent job moving and were finished before schedule. They set everything up and did amazing!

We used this company about 3 months ago. They moved us from our apartment building into a storage unit. Only one of the 4 workers was friendly. The head worker complained about the amount of stuff and how it was packed when we were paying by the hour. I was 6 months pregnant at the time and ended up moving 3 suv loads worth of our belongings so that we didn’t have to hear them complain anymore. They did not wrap our furniture and most of it was scratched. They placed items into the storage unit without any care. Heavier items on top of lighter which crushed a few things.

Mike moved my daughter and her roommate into Greenwich Village last year for school. Good experience, so I called again for their 'escape from NY' in August from the 4th floor walkup. We did most of the small box packing. Mike's crew showed up within the window (they had a previous job that day) and they were courteous, happy to be there, and professional - these guys knew what they were doing... huge guys! Furniture was disassembled and reassembled at delivery point with no damage at all. Final charge was low end of estimate, a little steep, but understandable with the NYC situation

He went through the entire house making notes, and later that evening we got a detailed, competitive, written estimate, that included a "cost will not exceed" figure. (Our last move, more than 27 years ago, was more than $1,000 OVER the estimate, and we moved less than 15 blocks away.) The moving men and truck arrived on time -- a tiny bit early, in fact, which was fine with us. Each of the men was friendly, meticulous, courteous, knowledgeable, accommodating, honest and very hardworking, and all the guys had terrific attitudes

We used Mahwah Movers - never again. We packed my wife's jewelry and moved it ourselves. Once we got in to the new house we packed that jewelry into a dresser of the new house bedroom (that had been moved in to the new house. In side a short window of time one of the movers wondered into the room and picked through the jewelry - and managed to take all items of value.

From the very start with the estimate until the job was completed with the final box being unloaded, Mike and his team acted with utmost professionalism. Please be very careful of MAHWAH MOVERS: I'm sharing my experience so hopefully no one else has to go through what we went through. We all know moving is already a stressful transition- I made the biggest mistake in trusting Mike- the estimator. I found Mahwah Movers on Angie’s List and called them along with several other movers. I was impressed at the speed with which my call was returned. Mike was great, his communication is awesome and he was able to get us scheduled and set very quickly.
Tommy and the guys were prompt, courteous and efficient. They worked quickly, were extremely organized and took great care of our possessions. Everything was carefully wrapped and cushioned before being placed on the truck.

From our 1st appointment with Mike to the day we moved everything went smoothly. They are very experienced, professional, on time and courteous. We moved only 12 miles but they had to store our goods for about a month.
The packing and loading went very well.
However, they made an appointment to deliver to us on Saturday and I kept calling them to ask where the truck was and they kept telling me it was on the way until around 11am when they said they couldn't get anyone to work. They rescheduled for the next day which was Sunday and they showed up. However, only two or three of the guys that showed up were regular movers. We hired Mahwah Movers to safely move some of our belongings from one location to another. No...wait... according to our contract, they were supposed to move ALL of our belongings and furniture from one location to another. They failed at this... miserably! Worst moving company, do not believe any of the positive reviews below. The positive reviews are probably bought out.
They damaged my furniture, my old house and my new house. I called to speak with them and no one picks up. They smelled like weed and were smoking during the move. They got into an argument with my father in law because he told them to be careful. I urge you to save yourself some grief and do not use them.

If at all possible. Research other movers first. The people at Mahwah Mover are nice. Sharon at the office to Mike the owner and his crew, all very nice. However, it is a small outfit operating like a small business. They do overbook, and over promise. My deliveries were delivered several hours late even though it was confirmed night before, I was assured that it would be delivered on time. Did they bother to call when they were late? Nope.

I had high hopes when working with Mike and his team but was let down.
We moved from our rental until in June 2016 and stored our items in Mahwah Mover's facility. Other than the crew being 3-4 hours late, all went smoothly.
Fast forward to November when we moved into our new home. It was Thanksgiving Eve and immediately, without having to unpack boxes, we knew items were missing/lost/broken/stolen as they did not make it from the storage facility to our new home. Items include a Dyson vacuum, slats for a Room & Board bed as well as legs for a Tempurpedic bed frame.

They are extremely professional and the turn around time is very quick from the time you place the call. I spoke with Irene on the phone and through email and she helped coordinate dates and details. I referred Mahwah movers to a good customer of mine,when her house got flooded.She needed everything moved out so we could do the construction, Eric and his guys showed up on time, performed wonderfully under extreme conditions with all the existing damage!! My customer was so impressed that she actually tipped each one of his guys individually $25, there were seven guys!!
I would absolutely refer him in the future without even thinking twice. This is the fourth move he has done for one of my customers in the last 13 1/2 months.
