Remodels that open up kitchen to adjacent rooms and create new connections to the outdoors are popular and make a home more liveable and spacious. If you love your current home and neighborhood but need more space, an addition is a great alternative to moving. Additions and remodels can be designed to blend seamlessly into the existing home and neighborhood.
The owners of this previous J.C.Penny building had difficulty leasing space because of a dated look and lack of windows. Large box retail is focused inward, and the owner wanted to attract multiple small tenants. The renovation and addition transformed the building with new entries and windows, and a central lobby circulation core.
To provide light and ventilation to new dwelling units an exterior courtyard was created within the shell of the school. The masonry structure was seismically retrofitted. Terra cotta detailing, skylights and windows were retained and repaired. Interior brick walls were exposed whenever possible. Each townhouse has a private yard or deck.
