Missing or deteriorated sealant within building expansion joints and at the perimeter of masonry openings (windows, doors, etc.) is often the source of moisture entry into the wall system. Caulk is designed to seal joints or cracks, and to protect them from water, dust, insects, air, and noise. Sealants are used to help joints with expansion and contraction, and adhesives are used to prevent joints from moving.
