Situated in a beach community, the clients developed this house with sustainable features. Accomplishing this within the budget required a combination of passive and active systems. The design concept focused on separate public and private spaces connected by a central outdoor area. The spatial movement from common entry to public or private space is enhanced in section by varied ceiling heights.
The facade materials reinforce the concept with horizontal redwood siding at the private volume and steel trowel stucco at the public volume. The building's orientation maximizes the southern exposure with the living space and master bedroom connected directly to the central south facing outdoor space.
A grid tied photo-voltaic solar panel system reduces electricity costs. Each room has cross ventilation and the extended eaves reduce solar heat gain. The design for this property in Venice evolved out of site and program constraints. The client wanted two separate single family dwellings on the lot.

I hired Gideon to create a design for a guest house and studio. He has been knowledgeable not only in architectural design but permit process and construction requirements. He looked at the site location carefully and came up with unique plans that creatively used the orientation of the yard and the sun light. He is responsive in communications, has very good ideas and listens to feedback. He is down-to-earth and very professional. I am quite pleased and would choose him again without hesitation.

Gideon designed a bathroom for us. The result was a total transformation from a dark awkward space to one that is bright, functional, and stylish. He had amazing intuition on what would look great for the bathroom and selected unique and modern materials that we never would have had the vision for on our own. Gideon redesigned my home that was built in 1975. He took a 1,600 sqft dated home and transformed it into a 2,600 sqft masterpiece. His design ideas are very creative, functional and increased the value of the property. He is extremely easy to work with and listens to your priorities. His sense of urgency, attention to detail, taste and expertise is an outstanding combination that is very rare.
