Marilyn Sygrove has been a friend and colleague for more than 30Yrs, I would trust her with my life. She is a mother, grandmother, a wife and a very talented, kind, courageous, confident and a strong woman. Marilyn has taught me a lot about Design and what is correct verses my opinion. Marilyn amazes me during her presentations with the knowledge she has. Clients, managers & owners listen to her and value her advice. She listens and pays attention to what the client wants, their dislikes and likes and small details. They have tremendous respect for her. Her customers call her back to redo jobs

My neighbors have described in detail how disappointed we are with our lobby. The monstrous black cabinets completely overpower what was an elegant Art Deco lobby and the concierge desk blocks off almost a quarter of this small space. The renderings did not accurately reflect the actual scale. When the majority of shareholders rapidly sign a petition asking for the immediate removal of these over-priced, unnecessary, coffin-like structures, that tells you something. And when the designer refuses to acknowledge this undeniable failure and work toward a solution, it tells you something else

One principle of design is proportion and scale. That is what is lacking in the design of our lobby by Sygrove Associates Design Group.
Two enormous black cabinets were installed in front of marble frame mirrors destroying the Art Deco style of the lobby creating a dark and oppressive atmosphere. Those big cabinets reaching the ceiling maybe be more appropriate for a warehouse, but it is not for a residential apartment building. They are so disproportional big that covers the whole back wall, almost touching the sconces and blocking its light.
The design never took into consideration the Art

The good
========
Building hallways needed updating. Any update was an improvement.
The not so good
=============
The model of the new door handles resulted in confusion and people getting locked out.
Replacing damaged door saddles was not included in the plan.
New door handles/viewers/trim = brass. Mail chute/elevator = silver. Mismatch not addressed.
Old beaten-up mailboxes need replacing to match new décor. Apparently not in the plan.
Old, dented handrails were reused, not replaced.
Shelf under mailboxes extend to under handrails making it challenging for some to go up the stairs

Our building was long overdue for a hallway upgrade, which included just about all public areas. Sygrove was hired as the designer.
The good:

The look of the hallways is definitely an improvement over what we had previously.
The lighting on most floors is efficient in that the lights dim when no one is around and brighten up a bit when motion is sensed. That should help cut down on the building's electric bill.
The not so good:
==============
- Much of the carpet is a light color. It remains to be seen how long it can stay looking that way as winter sets in.

Sygrove Associates which our co-op located at 67-76 Booth Street Forest Hills NY used for our hallways and lobby renovations has proven to be a real nightmare! They installed these huge bulky very dark and ominous storage cabinets in front of our beautiful art deco style mirrors. These cabinets costed a huge amount of money and they are blocking the light in the lobby. They look like something out of Dracula's castle. Furthermore they serve absolutely no purpose or functionality. They must be removed. Our residents and shareholders hate them and hate how they disfigured the look and feel

Sygrove Assocciates refurbished our co-op buildoing in 2011. The subcontractors were excellent and the carpeting looks as if it was `installed yesterday. It was a very good experience. Marilyn Sygrove
was a professional and very easy to work with, as well as her staff.
When the time comes we would use Sygrove Associates again.

I hired Marilyn and the Sygrove team to design the renovation of our 80+ unit co-op on the Upper East Side. The renovation consisted of a complete redesign of the hallways and lobby of our building, which were desperately in need of work. The project cost approximately $2 million and took approximately 2.5 years to design and construct. Marilyn and her team are top notch, professional, creative, organized and a pleasure to work with! They guided us through every step of the way - from design, drawings, contractor bids, overseeing the work and tracking monthly contractor requisitions. The team went

Working with Marilyn Sygrove and her team was an outstanding experience! We needed to renovate the hallways of our David Rockwell designed building in downtown Manhattan. Marilyn listened to what we wanted to achieve, then presented us with creative and thoughtful design solutions. Her team was very knowledgeable, organized, responsive and on-time throughout the process. Marilyn gave our hallways a fresher, updated look, that blends perfectly with the design of our building. The results are beautiful! I look forward to working with Marilyn and her team on more design projects in the future.
