Heidi Mortensen Design is a full service interior design firm specializing in residential projects and focused on creating truly original spaces for our clients. Since 1999 we have been designing homes in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, including the East Bay, Marin, Wine Country, Mendocino, Santa Cruz, and even the East Coast.
Based in San Francisco we work to help guide design dreams into reality for clients throughout the Bay Area and beyond, including the East Bay, Wine Country, Marin, Mendocino, Hawaii, and even the East Coast. We work with first time home buyers overwhelmed at the prospect of making their dream house really their own as well as those looking to refresh or update a long time residence.
A design always starts with understanding our clients likes, dislikes, needs, and wants. Listening and working closely with our clients helps us appreciate their uniqueness and translate that into a space they love. We value that our clients share their lives with us during the process of working together and strive to create something special for each one while making the process as enjoyable and stress free for them as possible.

This review is long overdue! I had moved into a new condo and all the rooms were builder's white - yuck. After six months of putting test colors on the wall, I still could not figure out what colors I wanted to paint.
Luckily I found Heidi. She came over to my place with these giant color swatches, probably 1 1/2 by 2 feet each so I could really see the color. Her suggestions were right on target and I love how the place turned out. We ended up using 6 different colors and they all complement each other beautifully. I would highly recommend Heidi.

We worked with Heidi on a bathroom remodel design. It was a great experience as she's super collaborative and really listened to what we were going for, which we barely knew ourselves. She was able to turn vague ideas into a design that totally aligned with what we were hoping to achieve. We just finished the project and it's beautiful. I'd highly recommend working with Heidi. She's very talented and super-easy to work with.

Heidi is wonderfully creative and such a pleasure to work with. She helped us renovate our condominium in the Marina and all her recommendations were fantastic. I have been amazed at the transformation and all of our friends say it looks like something you would see in a design magazine. I've known Heidi for 12 years and she has done work for me on multiple occasions. Heidi is a dream to work with. A wonderfully positive and "can-do" attitude with great design talent. She redesigned two of my tiny SF apartment bathrooms and made both feel like luxurious spas. They really felt larger after the remodel. She also designed my kitchen and fireplace, which I loved. Heidi is fantastic! She worked within the parameters of our budget but still did not rush us to make any decisions. She took our taste into consideration and listened to our ideas. We picked out a wonderful color scheme that flowed beautifully throughout the entire house. I contacted her again by email after the initial meeting for a last minutes suggestion on exterior front door and she was able to suggest a few colors which worked perfectly. I would definitely recommend Heidi and her color consultation skills.

Heidi's designs were great, and even better... they were great for me. Heidi took the time to get the feel of my place and my lifestyle/tastes. She came up with colors/designs that were right for my condo and right for me.
I had tried to remodel the kitchen on my own, and when I saw the results, I knew it was time to call in a pro. Heidi came up with a new setup which worked much better. She came up with improvements from the backsplash to the living room blinds, all while keeping my preferences (and budget) in mind. I am a building contractor that has worked with Heidi on a few kitchen and bath remodels, and i would encourage anyone looking to hire a kitchen or bath designer to hire Heidi to do their design, and here is why:
The main reason is that Heidi has a very good eye for design and color, and that the final product is always harmonious and pleasing. She has a knack for finding those small details that draw a project together, like having iridescent glass tile accents that catch the light just so, making a whole back splash glow with color. Are the iridescent glass tiles expensive? Of course

My wife and I used Heidi for some help picking colors to paint the interior of our new home. She saved us from what may have been a very "interesting" look. She had a great eye, and within the range of colors we were proposing, she helped pick the right shades, and also gave advice to help bring some continuity from room to room. Definitely worth the price, given how much the painting itself cost us, and given how long we'll be living in these colors. Thanks Heidi!

If you want your new home to look like out of the magazine (and cozy at the same time), you should hire Heidi for consultation.
I found Heidi through Yelp and I have to say that she did an amazing job for our new house.
We are not new to remodeling and have done most of design ourselves. However, color has been always a problem for us. I like using color in my home as part of decoration but always have trouble picking the colors. I have contacted Heidi and we exchanged a few emails about the project. I was looking for someone who can mainly help me with color consultation for my new place as

My husband and I contracted Heidi Mortensen to help us out of a jam with painting the interior of our new home. She came as a referral from the store where we bought our paint, after we had become stuck with our paint test patches.
Since we were going for bold, bright, strong colors we didn't want to screw it up. And there was a GREAT potential to screw it up. Enter Heidi.
She was amazing. I went around for weeks later telling everyone who cared (or pretended to) that the hour and a half she spent with us was the best $$ we spent in the whole project. No lie.
Her normal service is geared
