Leader Lawns
If you were to ask David Wilcox, the founder of Leader Lawns, what he values most, he would tell you-- hard work. David's story began 2006 with his younger brother Erik. At ages 13 and 11, they started a family lawn care business. By knocking doors and talking with neighbors, they found a handful of people who were kind enough to give two young boys a chance at mowing their lawns.

As David and Erik worked hard, learned professionalism, and the value of service, their small business expanded from 20 lawns the first year to 80 in their fifth. These work experiences changed David's life and became the central foundation of his character. He was able to provide for his own financial needs as a teenager and was inspired to become an entrepreneur.

For the next nine years he continued growing his lawn care business and graduated from Brigham Young University with honors in business management with a minor in non-profit management. Reflecting back on his first work experience, David realized that learning to work hard in his youth had helped him develop good characteristics and become successful in other aspects of his life.
Services
We power rake/de-thatch, blow, rake, and bag all debris from your lawn, flower beds, walkways, etc. All lawns require nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium to stay green and healthy, that's why fertilizer makes a difference. Some homeowners do this themselves; we provide the service if you are concerned about burning your grass.
We provide our young employees with curriculum and a mentored training program to teach them to become leaders through valuable life skills. Our youth work hard, take ownership, and build community. At Leader Lawns, youth learn to work hard as they perform the physical labor of mowing lawns.
Leader Lawns is more than just a job; it's a youth training program that specializes in teaching leadership skills. We provide our trainees with curriculum, work experience, and dedicated mentors (crew chiefs). Our youth learn to work hard, take ownership, and build community as they learn to apply work skills to improve their lives and become leaders.
Many of our trainees come to us as referrals from our community partners here in Anchorage. While we are interested in helping youth from all walks of life, our partners connect us to our community's under-served populations including refugees, Alaska Natives, and youth who live below the poverty line.
