We had a great experience working with Gordon and the rest of the team at GKW Architects. They handled exceptionally well a construction project from the very first idea, through the initial design options, drafting the plans, iterating through our feedback, submitting the plans for approval with the county, making adjustments for the comments, through the final approval. In discussions, they explained all the options very clearly and took the time to answer all our questions. They worked very efficiently, and within the initially agreed budget. I hired Gordon to help me with architectural and structural plans for renovating the upstairs and downstairs for my house. At first, he sounded extremely confident and gained my trust in his abilities. But that quickly changed.
He originally promised to complete the project in about 1.5 months - it took nearly 4 months to complete. Midway through the project, he "recommended" we split the project to two phases - 1st phase: downstairs, 2nd phase: upstairs - to expedite the permit approval process. He said getting upstairs and

Horrible experience. Poorly completed project was delivered roughly six months later than promised, 60% over budget and with very poor attention to detail. Had to finish the project with a different architect after they demanded 20% of original quote to fix review comments from the county. Very unethical. I did receive a token credit after I complained about being charged repeatedly to fix their mistakes. Complaint filed with the California Architects Board.
