Kami Gray Interiors is a full-service interior design and remodeling firm for residential homes and spaces, serving the greater Portland, Oregon area. After Kami finished her Bachelor of Science in Design in 2002 (The Art Institute of Portland), her career began as a catalog art director and set designer for brands like Pendleton, Nike, and Rejuvenation at Williams-Sonoma.
As inspirational as home decor catalogs can be, this work taught Kami how to make something look tiptop on a tight budget. Kami had to be imaginative and resourceful as success in the catalog business meant that every page was a source of inspiration. It didn't take long for Kami's work and interests to naturally turn towards designing interiors for residential clients.

Services
Interior Design for Home Furnishings: For design fees, we charge a flat rate per room. Rates depend on how many items we're sourcing for you and if we're assisting with any cosmetic changes, such as adding wallpaper, designing built-ins, redesigning a fireplace, etc. The range is between $1000-$4000 per room.
This project was co-designed by my daughter and interior designer, Steph Welch. The 1926 home in the Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood of Portland, Oregon was in dire need of a main floor renovation. It was last updated in 1988 and had lost most of its original charm. We opened up walls, but were careful to do so in a way that respects the homes of this era.
A chimney was running right through the island and to camouflage it, it had been wrapped in wood paneling. The bar seating was in a narrow walkway so we moved it to an exterior wall and created an indoor/outdoor bar seating area separated by an accordion window. The breakfast nook was too small so we pushed it towards the window and created a banquette.
Walls were knocked out for this one. The 1920s home had tons of space, but it was broken up into small, awkwardly-shaped rooms. Not anymore. It's open, airy, spacious and the perfect gathering place for a young family of five. These wonderful clients wanted their home to be warm and inviting so we used earth tones and balanced those with hints of Mediterranean blue.
One of the biggest challenges in renovating older homes is being respectful to the original architecture and era. In this case, an 1893 Victorian one block off SE Division in the Richmond neighborhood of Portland was remodeled in the 1980s and to put it delicately, it was a botched job. But in whomever's defense, the 80s were not a time of great ideas and execution in kitchen design.

Can't comment on design but she definitely lacks professionalism. Had been in contact with Kami via email for over a month and never showed up two different times. When she did finally show up was told she would get back to us by email in about a week with more information about the project and never heard back from her. If you're an adult with a business you would think one would have the decency to at least get back to a potential client and let them know she wouldn't be able to work with you. I found her flaky and her actions were adolescent.

We love Kami!! She is very kind, friendly, patient, and has a calmness about her that is contagious. She has an incredible eye for design and is very budget conscious! From our first meeting, I knew she was the perfect person to help us define a vision for how we wanted our home to look and feel. I highly recommend Kami Gray Interior Design. We had a large and long project and she stuck with us all the way through. She carefully helped us "non-design people" through each room and each phase from tile, flooring, cabinets, paint and much more. Working with Kami is different than working with a designer from a store, in a good way! She is more flexible in her design ability, and can source items from a variety of locations, which is a huge benefit. Kami is incredible! She helped us take a room we rarely used and make it the most beautiful and welcoming in the home. We particularly appreciated Kami's deep knowledge of where to source unique items. She helped us find a custom-made table and a drop-dead gorgeous antique rug. Both are stunning. Kami has done two substantial projects for me in Lake Oswego. One, was a remodel and staging of a condo in First Addition. I know her work helped sell the place! The second was styling and furnishing a 5000 Sq.Ft. house while I was on travel in Southeast Asia. Before I left, I handed her the keys and she worked her magic. That's how much I trust her. Kami is amazing!!! When we moved into our forever home last year we needed help furnishing our living/dining/family rooms and covered porch, which are open and visible from one space to the next. Design is not our forte - we know what we like when we see it, but have no knowledge of how to get there. We gave Kami vague descriptions of our style preferences and vision and she pulled together amazing spaces that we love spending time in. Kami did an amazing job helping us with our condo renovation (kitchen, guest bathroom and master bathroom remodel). She helped us to turn our 1990s loft into a modern beautiful space. She is fun, easy to work with, and advised us on all design decisions and concerns. She was a great partner and even went to bat for us a number of times. Kami is a real find! I got a new job a few years ago, and I hired her to go through my closet. She gave me honest feedback about what I needed to purge, and what was flattering on me...and I felt like I could really trust her! Then, we went shopping together. Kami is fantastic. I didn't have time for shopping and my wardrobe showed it. Kami has a great eye and she pulled all the pieces together. All I had to do was show up and try everything on, which only took a couple of hours. So, in the amount of time that I might wander aimlessly around the mall, we had picked an entire wardrobe of 30 mix and match pieces.
As a side note, I am very tall and usually have difficulty finding clothing and shoes that fit. Somehow she pulled it off.
