I grew up in Vermont on a small farm with parents who embraced the back-to-the-land movement. I had 60 chickens, raised sheep and tapped sugar maples. It was a time when hippies were moving to the state with great expectations and a plethora of creative ideas. In the 1970's Vermont was alive experimenting with alternative building methods and home energy ideas.
My dad was an architect and I was awed as a kid by his beautiful pen and ink renderings and amazing balsa wood models. We spent many hours fixing up our old farm house and working on the various outbuildings around the farm. I loved the hands-on satisfaction of creating and building things.
When my dad saw my interest in hand drawing, architecture and building construction, he let me tag along on his jobsite visits and later connected me to many summer construction jobs. This was an invaluable experience showing me how things go together. The importance of building sustainably has never been more important than it is today.

My wife and I needed someone to design our dream home. We were so happy that we picked Studio Hamlet to do the job. Russ guided us through the process and made everything so easy. He took the fear and anxiety about such a big decision and transformed into the excitement and great expectation of living in our dream home.
Russ helped us to understand all of the ins and outs of home design and construction. He also made picking materials and colors so easy. I highly recommend Studio Hamlet for any job big or small.

Russ was easy to work with and very professional. He thought outside the box and created a solution to our remodel project that solved many issues and captured a better overall look to our home while keeping with the architectural integrity of our style home. Can’t wait to have him come back on another project!

From the beginning to the end of our project, Russ Hamlet went above and beyond to make our experience top notch. He was patient and made excellent suggestions. He worked with our hectic schedule to meet with us on numerous occasions after regular business hours to meet our needs. He met with the city multiple times to hash out details. He showed us previous work he had done to give us ample ideas to work with for our project. He met with structural engineers and our builder to see that everything was done to code. He followed up with us multiple times to make sure we were all in agreement. He
