Sandy Glenn, a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, has been in the lighting field for almost forty years. At heart an entrepreneur, he opened his own business in 1987 with a focus on the art of custom design and a strong desire to share with others his love of contemporary lighting.
The basic realization that Omaha, Nebraska, had little to offer to its residents in this style, prompted Sandy to choose this location for his own niche store.After more than thirty years, his love of this contemporary art form has only increased, and he stays current with all the newest products by attending design shows, lighting markets, and new technology conventions.
Though based in Omaha, he also travels to bring state-of-the-art custom lighting design and home automation to clients across the country. ALR was originally known as Lamps, Lights, and Shades, a small lighting gallery located in Miracle Hills. Over the past thirty-one years, it acquired its present name, and relocated to Rockbrook Village, Midtown, the House & Home Center in West Omaha, and currently Empire Spectrum.

Our objective with every new lighting project is to translate the customer's vision into an artistic reality. Residential or commercial, large or small, new construction or restoration, we give our full focus to each client. Utilizing our experience, coupled with research into new products and manufacturers, we diligently work on every project to provide an amazing design and gain a satisfied customer.
In the gallery below are a few of the many products we have access to, highlighting both our new discoveries and proven favorites. Though our focus is primarily on lighting design and control, we also enjoy incorporating other products which we believe add innovation and creativity to the total design.
When the LED craze began, ALR was extremely cautious about immediately entering this market. We did not want to compromise projects by using a new product still in the introductory stage. At that time, the LED market was struggling with issues such as lack of optional color temperatures, low color rendering indexes (CRIs), flickering, pulsing or other questionable dimming.
