Bob Bates Jr, started the business in 1986 with the purchase of one small sealing machine and a couple of guys. The company has moved location twice and is now housed in its own building and yard. The equipment list has grown over the years to allow greater scope of jobs along with number of concurrent jobs.

Interconnected cracks forming a series of small blocks resembling an alligator's skin or chicken wire. High-quality, thoroughly-controlled hot mixture of asphalt cement and well-graded, high quality aggregate, thoroughly compacted into a uniform dense mass. A mixture of slow-setting emulsified asphalt, water, aggregate and mineral filler, produced to a slurry consistency and placed on pavement surface.

Bates Paving did a phenomenal job for our private drive. We had a long, worn out asphalt driveway that needed to be removed and resurfaced. We had originally contracted with another Tucson asphalt company but on the day they were going to start the work, they informed us it was going to be more work than anticipated and they tried to raise the bid another $15K even though we had signed a contract. We contacted Bates and they responded promptly and provided and estimated so we contracted with them
