Kyle and his father did a great job swapping out 7 locks in my house/garage to unify on one key and also added securing latches to three gates to allow padlocks to be used on either side (to allow gardener access). Their initial quote was what I paid, and they did all the work in just a couple hours when convenient for me one evening after work.

I have to shout out to Keylo - originally from San Carlos now located in San Mateo. I am 99% sure Kyle's great grandfather saved my life when I locked my mom out of the house at the age of 3. But truly - Keylo is THE locksmith on the Peninsula. They have recently moved locations and are now in San Mateo, just past Hillsdale Mall. Klye is running the show these day, he's not always in office because he goes out in the field to change locks etc. I've never had trouble with a key made at Keylo - and being a Realtor - a functioning door key is super important. I'm pleased that Kyle moved Keylo Locksmith to its new location at 2277 South El Camino Real (between 92 and 25th Ave), San Mateo as of 10-1-2020. Keylo Locksmith was founded by Kyle's grandfather, and I love to patronize locally owned businesses. I got keys copied at Ace Hardware last week to two deadbolt locks at my house, and none of the copies worked! Kyle cut me copies, and they work flawlessly. I hope Keylo has great success at its new location after having lived for so many years on Laurel Street in San Carlos.

I brought in a very old cabinet lock that needed to key rekeyed to match the other locks and Kyle persistently tried various strategies to crack the lock. In the end, success! Not only did I get what I needed, but I really appreciated that he was wearing a face covering the whole time, even while in the store without customers. I also enjoyed hearing about how his late Grandfather started the business and Kyle took it over to carry on the family legacy.

Terrrible service. I went in at 9:00 and waited for 20 -25 minutes. Got up to the counter, and handed over my keys, an specifically told the guy I'd be back at 4:00 to pick them up. He took my name and phone number. Came back at 4:00, waited in line for another 20 minutes, and when I got to the counter, it became apparent the guy had just dropped my keys the moment I walked out the door. He then had to research the keys (another 10 minutes), only to find that he did not have the blank for one, even though I had told him the make and model of the car. UPDATE: It's been almost comical today. Posted hours say open at 8:30am. I show up at 9:10am. The lights are out, and Keylo is closed. Fine. So I come back 2 hours later, at 11:00am. The lights are on, but now there is a sign saying they'll be back at 1:00pm-1:30pm. What? I can't believe it's so difficult to do business here. I'm trying, really, I'm trying to keep my business in San Carlos. Please help!

I went to Keylo Locksmith five times during their posted hours, and every single time the place was closed. In two cases, there was a note on the door; in others, nothing. In one case I waited thirty minutes, and another customer came by but did not wait. In another case I went there twice in the same day, forty minutes apart, and no one was there either time.
So, five strikes and you're out.

I really wanted to get them to fix the keyed ignition switch for my car. I popped over at 12 only to find a tag on the door that said they were out and would return at 12:45 - no big deal. When I came back at 12:45, still locked up and sign in the window. At about 1, I texted Kyle at the number on the sign to see when they would be back - no response. I waited til about 1:15 then left - apparently they don't need my business. Drove down to Lockworks unlimited in Redwood City and they took care of my issue, quick and easy. Should of gone to Lockworks first!!

I went in to get copies of an ignition/door key for a 1971 Cadillac. Not your average request! Kyle spent a lot of time trying to get the right fit, and after a couple of tries, found the right keys. This was a huge problem solved for me since I had only one key to make the copies from. Thanks Kyle and Keylo!

Such a friendly shop with can-do attitude! All the duplicates I've ordered have a 100% success rate (instead of the 30% failure from Ace Hardware). They even did a custom job for my "weird key" (the one from my San Mateo Lock Works review), using an alternative blank, but making it work. Next time I need spare keys, I'll just go straight here.

I went in today to replace the lock on my Thule cargo box. I had broken the key off in the lock and furthered messed it up by trying to pull it out myself. Kyle spent 20 minutes fishing the key out and then replacing the lock cylinder. For all of that work he only charged $20. I told him I thought that wasn't enough but he insisted. I was really impressed with the effort he put into fixing the lock and his integrity in sticking to his price even though the work ended up being a lot more than expected. KeyLo will be my go-to locksmith from now on.

Kyle is great. We have used Keylo several times. My company has old doors that are heavily used and Keylo is always up to the task.
They are also great about repairing the doors in a timely manner and they know what's going on. I called another company by mistake last time and the guy took pictures and left. He had no idea what to do to fix my issue.
Kyle remembered my door over the phone and was able to bring the parts for the issue he thought it might be to fix it as fast as possible.
I will call Keylo every time!!!

I went in to get one of my keys duplicated. They had the granddad and the grandson working at the store - both supremely affable. The grandson helped me duplicate the keys. I go back and try the keys out an home, they do not work well. I take them back, the grandfather realizes that the machine these were made was not precise enough, tells this to his grandson so that he can learn which keys to duplicate where and then promptly makes me two keys which work flawlessly.
I love this local mom-and-pop joint any day with its personal touch
