It helps turn you from an order taker into an innovator, and makes any project one for the portfolio. Because we are a small manufacturer Mountain Craft Wide Plank can take logs from your property - those removed for a build, from storm damage or timber that has reached maturity - and manufacture a custom wide plank floor, paneling, stair parts, mouldings or island tops.
Not entirely sure we could be called artists. We do, however, proudly call ourselves craftsmen creating functional art. Craftsmen because there is certainly a "craft" to proudly producing customized wide plank wood flooring, mouldings, solid wood paneling, beams and other wood products at our shop in the small town of Hazelton, West Virginia.
Matt Thorn is amazing! We got an antique oak flooring with custom distressing in 3", 4", 5", and 6", random width and length. Couldn't be happier from start to finish! Top quality product! Mountain Craft Wide Plank knows all-too-well home builds or renovations can sometimes be more time consuming and stressful than you first imagined, internet searches can only do so much and samples can only go so far.
Younger wood consist of less character and is usually more uniform in color within planks. Younger wood is typically taken from the outermost lumber in the log. Knots displayed in the younger wood grade are smaller than a nickel in size, and only appear occasionally. The wood located in the center of a log displays the characteristics throughout the tree's life.
