Outdoor living spaces continue to trend, and one feature that is very popular is an outdoor fireplace, particularly those constructed with stacked stone.

One type of a stacked stone fireplace is the dry stack fireplace, which uses the weight and friction between large rocks that are stacked horizontally to create stability. The cement often creates a look of grout between the stones, while the dry-stack style does not have that look. Stacked stone fireplaces are becoming more popular in the Austin area, especially the modern style with the grout-look.
Services
Scott Bonniwell was trained in the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Union local #2. He started his custom stonework services in 1982 with the best craftsmanship under Don Hudson, and never looked back since then! Today, Scott is the owner of his current company providing beautiful masonry to Austin, Texas with countless satisfied customers!

I wanted to thank Scott and his crew for the great job they did on my grill and bench area for the backyard!
Looks Great and very functional.
They finished on budget and on time - I would definitely recommend them for your next stone and masonry project and use him again myself.

I own a landscape design/install business and we sub-contracted out a new stone patio install to Texas Stone Masons. Scott and his team did an outstanding job on a challenging build. Texas Stone Masons are one of the few companies I sub to without any hesitation with regards to quality of work. They come in on time and on budget. My clients are happy and the project looks great!

Scott was quick to respond and go out to inspect our falling courtyard arches. He had great expertise in how to fix, and his crew were expert masons and extremely professional. Highly recommend.

This is the second time that we have used Texas Stone Masons and are very pleased with their work. Scott Bonniwell, owner of Texas Stone Masons, took the time to discuss and understand what we wanted done, provided a written estimate, and then oversaw all of the work being done. I am very happy to recommend Texas Stone Masons and will not hesitate to call Scott the next time we have masonry work to be done.

Adding an outdoor patio with fireplace has made my hill country home complete. I have Scott and his amazing crew of masons to thank for that. I first met with Scott to discuss design ideas and materials and from that he drew up a rough plan. Gustavo and his team took that plan and created an inviting, relaxing space that fully met my expectations. This is a group of extremely skilled craftsmen who patiently and ardently work the piles of stone into a thing of beauty. At the end of the project the cleanup process was excellent. For professionalism, timeliness, flexibility, and quality, I recommend

Texas Stone Masons gave a facelift to an existing limestone fireplace and constructed a new limestone fireplace in our master bedroom. They did a great job and finished the work very quickly. Their crew was very professional and left the house clean. The owner Scott Bonniwell worked with me to coordinate the work and followed up after the project was completed to see if we were pleased. I would highly recommend Texas Stone Masons for any masonry project.

What a great experience working with Scott. After visiting with several other contractors, all taking weeks to deliver their one-number bids, we lucked upon Scott. He was punctual, took the time to understand my vision, and suggested creative alterations that I hadn't even considered. You know, things like making the new mailbox the proper height for postman delivery and having a flag that doesn't block the house number. Details that every mason should know, but Scott was the only one to suggest. Scott's bid was thorough, fair, included what was requested or necessary, and was the only one that

Scott and his crew did an amazing job! I can't recommend them enough. He is timely, he communicates well and he is very honest. We had a challenging project and he just worked through the pitfalls like a true professional. The final product is nothing short of a backyard oasis. It was great to work with true craftsmen.

Fantastic job. One of the best things is that when Scott tells you he will be there, he's there. When Scott tells you he's going to do something, he does it.
I challenged Scott with bricking an entire structure to match the bricks of a 25-year old house and it came out looking great. Also, the crew he had on site was great as well.
Would highly recommend.

When I made my original inquiry, Scott was quick to pick up the phone and get me a quote. Unfortunately his service took a major down swing after that. It took him until the next day to actually put that same quote in writing. Then when I wanted to go ahead and confirm the job, it took him over 24 hours to get back to me, and he wasn't actually sure when he could schedule the job at all.

I have decided to use another mason to get the job done, as I found Scott to be unprofessional, slow to respond, and unable to handle what is a fairly small job (rebuilding a mailbox that was knocked over

Scott Boniwell, the representative we worked with at Texas Stone Masons, is unprofessional and rude. we engaged Texas Masons to do a simple project. In advance of the crew arriving, we prepared the worksite removing AV equipment and supports and cleared his crew through security. Scott arrived late and his crew was held up by security because the crew driver had an expired drivers license. Some how Scott made this my problem and he wasn't smart enough to go to security and drive the vehicle to our home. His solution was to call me to tell me the crew left, that he wasn't interested in

Scott Bonniwell with Texas Stone Mason's, came highly recommended as THE stone mason to use. My husband and I interviewed 4 different masons, and the knowledge that Scott presented was above anyone else. He brought up points we had not thought of, he shared different options and he was very honest and humble.
His bid was incredibly fair! We immediately knew we wanted Scott and his team to move forward and we were more than willing to wait for their next availability. They were worth the wait in every single way! Our patio has craftsmanship all over it!
His crew was amazing. They were timely,

We had to replace about 40 linear feet of stone steps that lead to porches around our house. The original job (before we owned the house) was done very poorly and was an excellent example of how not to build stone steps.
It was a big job, and for stairs its very important to get the rise and run correct and to have proper slope to shed water.
Scott Bonniwell came up with a beautiful, creative way to do the job, and keep our costs down. There were several changes along the way that were no problem what so ever. He was always thinking of ways to save us money, or when we needed it, come up

My wife and I spent months searching for the right landscaper/landscape designer and ran into so many obstacles it became a drudge!!! Nightmare is a better adjective. But after a few recommendations from neighbors and our neighborhood association's "ListServe" we connected with a great designer (more on her later) who sent us to Daniel Stone and Landscaping Supplies on Hwy. 290 West (see separate review). Whew... what a fantastic stoneyard. So big that they to drove us around in a golf cart to see the various selections of quarry stone for our project. After selecting the stone we
