Garney Construction's story begins in 1961, when Charles Garney left his father's Kansas City plumbing business to start his own pipeline and utility construction company. Over the next two decades, Garney expanded into related construction activities and other regions of the country. Soon, Garney was known as one of the nation's leading contractors in water and wastewater systems.
Garney is the largest contractor for conveyance projects in the country. We continue to lead the industry rankings in transporting safe drinking water to customers and moving wastewater and stormwater to treatment facilities for treatment, discharge, or reuse. Since 1961, we have specialized in pipeline installations across the United States, installing pipelines up to 156 in diameter in all types of soil conditions.
A Public-Private Partnership (P3) creatively structures a public project so the public side does not bear all costs and risks up front. Instead, the majority of the financing and risk is assumed by the private sector. Thereby allowing the P3 approach to reduce the public upfront cost and provide for a shorter development time line, all which limit public risk.
Mike has spent his entire career at Garney after graduating from the University of Kansas in 1990 with a degree in Architectural Engineering. The first 15 years of Mike's career consisted of building projects in many parts of the country. Most of these projects focused on pipeline systems for the private sector.
