At Blackburns we have systems in place that guarantee reliability, orderliness and your satisfaction. We call this Blackburns' Peace of Mind Experience. I know nothing about fireplaces, other than that's where you burn wood. Blackburn's was awesome! They called ahead so I could meet them at my house and they couldn't have been friendlier!
They did their job and even showed me all the pictures from the roof. Blackburns exceeded my expectations. The gentleman and his son that showed up were on time, clean and professional. Not only did they do a good job cleaning out our chimney - I never knew there was so much junk in our chimney - they did a great job educating me about chimneys 101.
We've all heard that April showers bring May flowers, but one of the less pleasant things they can bring is odors into your home due to issues with your chimney. Now that spring weather has arrived we are all taking advantage of the lovely weather, opening our windows and enjoying the sounds of springtime.

Services
At Blackburns we have systems in place that guarantee reliability, orderliness and your satisfaction. We call this Blackburns' Peace of Mind Experience. It is the mission of Blackburn's Chimney Sweeps Inc. to provide customer service, repairs and products to the Columbus Ohio area that are so superior that we will remain the standard by which all our competitors will have to measure themselves.
The National Fire Protection Association states, "Chimneys shall be inspected at least once a year." Our experience has shown us that under "normal burning conditions" it may take about one cord of wood burned in a fireplace to produce enough creosote build-up to warrant cleaning. This is only a rule of thumb and under certain burning conditions the need for sweeping could be much sooner.
At Blackburn's Chimney, we follow the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommended inspection procedures. NFPA divides the inspection procedure into three categories, or levels. The circumstances which give rise to the inspection determine what level of inspection is to be conducted. A Level I inspection is the most basic level of inspection while Level II and Level III inspections are progressively more detailed and comprehensive.
A chimney cap prevents rain from entering the chimney, causing damper and firebox rust leading to expensive repairs. Most chimney caps will not allow birds, bats, squirrels or other animals to enter the chimney to nest. Where certain wind conditions exist, a chimney cap will discourage downdrafts. Some caps are specifically designed to prevent wind from blowing across the chimney, others actually create and updraft when wind blows through them!
Chimney relining is often the most practical and affordable way to repair a deteriorated or damaged chimney. Chimneys can be damaged by a number of things such as settling, hurricanes and lightning but the most common form of chimney damage is a chimney fire. In addition to chimney damage, older chimneys may be unlined or their liners may be deteriorated to the point where relining is warranted.
